The first incarnation of Morté Vida formed in the middle of 2005 by band guitarist Ben "Blumdank" Dentice searching around for people to play at a friend's party. Having little time to prepare, Ben pulled together the most talentless morons he could find. (Ex) bassist Blain Fitzpatrick was recruited, before (ex) vocalist, Josh Forman joined the group, having earlier expressed interest in singing. The band needed a drummer, so having been in an earlier band with Callum Gay, Ben requested he come over to a practise. The band played the party, their set consisting entirely of System of a Down covers, and after time spent playing together, began writing and playing gigs, when after a year they added their good friend Josh Mason on keyboards. After a few months, Blain and Josh Forman decided the band wasn't moving in the direction they wanted it to, following a dramatic change in song content, as the material steadily increased in technicality and intensity. They parted ways, on friendly terms with the other band members in August 2006.
The band quickly found replacement members for Josh F and Blain, In (now ex member) Isaac Hiroti- on vocals and Alex Ross- transferring his guitar skills onto Bass. The band then started from scratch and effectively created an entirely new group, under the same name, discarding all their previous songs and begining to formulate a new set. In their new state they continued to write and kept moving in the direction that resulted in the departure of Josh F and Blain. This would lead to the friendly resignation of Josh Mason, as the new song content left little room for keyboard parts.
The new band continued as a four-piece. After a long hiatus from performing where the band focused on writing, Morte Vida finally became active again and began the process of laying down demos of the new tracks. Halfway into the recording process, Isaac made it known he had lost interest in the band, and relinquished his position, again on friendly terms with the other members.
After time spent without a vocalist, the band collectively decided to abandon the hunt for a replacement. Progressing as a largely instrumental band with minimal vocals performed by current instrumentalists, the band intends to continue writing, with a full-length and shows around the country on the cards in future.
