In the backwoods of Wisconsin, in a small cabin 20 miles from even thenearest logging road, 4 lads found a way to escape the city.
Unsatisfied with any prior attempts of creating the music that stirredthem, they finally found it here.
"We spent months in that place, it was our sanctuary" Says frontmanNicholas Stuart. "There was a certain moment I recall, after spendingthe day hunting and fishing for food,
we gathered at our instruments and played until the sun came up. It wasthat moment we knew The Wildbirds had begun"
Shortly after in 2006, after sending a slew of uncut, live demos toindustry folks, they found the man for the job.
The remainder of that year was spent tidying up their debut record"Golden Daze" with acclaimed producer Greg Fidelman (U2, Green Day, TomPetty, Red Hot Chili Peppers),
and engineer Greg Gordon (Oasis, Hot Hot Heat, JET) in Los Angeles.
Then they took a few months off to contemplate their next move.
"We’re horribly impatient, and the idea of playing the waiting game waskilling us". mentions Stuart.
So they did as any young band would do (not quite).
They sold everything, converted a small-short bus to run on used fryergrease, and made the bus their home.
"Its quite the foreign feeling to be without the average householdluxuries" says Stuart. "No proper bed, no couch, no t.v.,
and definitely no shower. But it’s incredibly freeing as well".
This has been the everyday life for these four quasi-gentlemen (and onelady, Emily, who is lovingly called "the fifth member"),
for about 35,000 miles & five months time...so far.
"It all started as a diligent way to promote the record, to play as manycities as frequently as possible. But now it’s simply the way welive."
Although five months may seem like an eternity to spend in the tinyconfines of the bus, they’re not nearly ready to hang their hats.
"This is only the beginning", says guitarist Matthew Reetz. "Our firstrecord just came out and we’ve accomplished incredible things sofar"
Since the release of Golden Daze in August, they’ve done three full U.S.tours, a trek from Eastern to Western Canada, and will continue at thispace
through mid 2008, including a venture early next year across the pond.
"Rock and roll is freedom to us, we won’t quit, we can’t". "And we’re abit excited to see what tomorrow will bring"

"When The Wildbirds played in New York recently at one of Little Steven’s live Underground Garage nights, they drove to the show all the way from their digs in deepest Wisconsin, bringing a big bag of howl and twin-guitar clatter that sounded like a shotgun wedding of the band and the New York Dolls. If you think I am hallucinating about the former, you should have heard the cover of "The Shape I’m In". It’s not on The Wildbirds’ debut album Golden Daze, but everything else that made the gig an unexpected highlight of my ’07 (in a month when I also saw Led Zeppelin and Neil Young) present and nasty. There is a little Kings of Leon in guitarist Nicholas Stuart’s raised-by-wolves yelp. But there is far more home-cooked excitement in the choruses and drives of songs such as "421 (Everybody Loves You)" and "Slow Down" - which, of course, doesn’t." - David Fricke, Rolling Stone, January 2008
"Golden Daze is...the sound of beer, groupies, and roadhouses thatserve sloppy, BBQ-sauce covered ribs."-

“It’s a fabulous mix of music echoing of the past, but more importantlyThe Wildbirds evokes the swagger of yore. Their songs are wildlycontagious, plumped up with exultant melodies, sing-along choruses, bruising rhythms, and the kind of splendid musicianship that will sendthousands of listeners into an air-guitar frenzy. All told this is analbum for the ages.†– Billboard
"Their stock in trade is straight-ahead, no frills rock of the sort you probably don’t even realize you dig until you’re there and you realize that, yes, that is your hair whipping around. Even if you’re bald." - Chromewaves.net
"Wisconsin’s The Wildbirds, brought the dirt with stomping rock and roll steeped in hard boogie. Juiced with young men’s vim and a gutsy attack, these newjacks could legitimately challenge the Kings of Leon for their crown." - Orlando Weekly
"The choruses are catchy, the guitar solos are fiery and the drums makes you want to dance. You might just be turned into a fan." - Pop Matters
"In a time when synth-conducive sounds are every bit a part of the modern rock band as a rhythm section, congratulations to The Wildbirds for playing the kind of rock that made rock n roll what it is today." - Culture Bully
