360 & ANECDOTE ARE THROUGH TO THE MELBOURNE FINALS!
THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
************************************************************ ****
With his mop of blonde hair, thick Aussie drawl and ever-present uniform of boardies and thongs, you’d be forgiven for thinking that 360 was just another surfie kid from the suburbs and not a hip-hop star in the making.
However, let him anywhere near a microphone and that pretence will be quickly shattered.
360 is probably the most uniquely talented emcee in today’s game. You want punchlines, similes and metaphors? Check. You want heartfelt poetry and raw emotion? Check. You want controversy and gut-busting humour? Check. You want accomplished song writing and hooks that will resound from mosh pits to pop charts? Yep, Sixty’s got them too. To call him “the total package” would be an understatement.
Arriving on the scene in 2003 as a fresh-faced 16-year-old, 360 quickly established a reputation among the local hip-hop fraternity as a force to be reckoned with. This included a blitz of Melbourne’s underage battle circuit, a brief signing to underground powerhouse Unkut Recordings (by Aussie rap legend Trem no less), and scene-stealing guest appearances on tracks by Infallible (‘Situation Critical’) and Terntable Jediz (‘Foul Child’). Yet it wasn’t until joining forces with equally talented rhyme slinger Pez as the duo Forthwrite that Sixty’s knack for crafting classic hip-hop music (and creating controversy) was truly realised.
Forthwrite’s early live shows in 2005 have gone down in Melbourne rap folklore as some of the most incendiary, no-holds-barred displays of raw lyricism ever witnessed by local crowds. These shows signalled a changing of the guard in the city’s hip-hop scene – no longer would established rap veterans be able to survive on their names and street reps alone; 360 and Pez were here to name names, call out those emcees whose time was up, and back up their bold statements with sheer talent that could not be denied.
With all eyes on Forthwrite, the outspoken duo spent the bulk of 2006 cementing their reputation with landmark appearances on DJ A-Style’s Scar-Non Volume 3: Kick To The Head mixtape (including 360’s now-legendary reworking of 50 Cent’s ‘In Da Club’) and DJ Frank Force’s Ground Up mixtape series; further proving their status as two of the most entertaining live performers around; and building a buzz that has now risen to a roar among the group’s ever-expanding fanbase.
In 2007, 360 is set to deliver on the hype with his long-awaited debut solo album, What You See Is What You Get. Instead of relying on the presence of big-name guest artists like so many of his contemporaries, Sixty takes full control of the spotlight with his invariably hilarious, shocking, captivating, thought-provoking and inspiring poetry, over the accomplished beatwork of M-Phazes (Royce Da 5’9”), Styalz Fuego (Chamillionaire), Canada’s Muneshine and talented newcomer Pabstrakt. The result is one of the finest debut recordings ever to emerge from Australia’s burgeoning hip-hop scene.
360 – What You See Is What You Get – out soon on Soulmate Records.
