SOUTHBOUND

SOUTHBOUND was formed in 1988 by Chelle and (me) Brian. Just think, there was no internet then!! No cell phones, no email, and only rich people had home computers. Anyway, we were both music majors at UWSP (Stevens Point) and although we were dating, we were in different bands. I was in Buckshot and Chelle had "Chelle and Silver Wings". Turns out the bass player in my band quit and Chelle had been trying to find a steady lead guitar player for a while, so we formed a new band and SOUTHBOUND was born. We have had a few different lineups over the past 20 years, and I could list everyone that has ever been in this band, but I might as well type out the phone book! Suffice it to say that things started clicking for us around 1994 with Joe Schultz on drums and Lawrie Beaver on bass. In the late fall of 1996, Joe was replaced by drummer/vocalist Todd Twait. That following spring, we won the Hodag regional pickoff and that summer took 2nd at the Hodag state finals. We came back the following year to try again and again won the regional. We then won the state championship at Hodag. That lineup of Chelle, me (Brian) Lawrie and Todd would stay in place for the next 11 yrs. In August of 2006 Lawrie announced that he would be retiring from the hectic life of a weekend musician. We searched far and wide for a replacement and finally found Wally Splettstoesser. Wally lives in Madison, so its a heck of a commute, but he does it every weekend and during the week for rehearsal too. His love for music, playing and super positive attitude quickly made him a valuable asset to the band. Whew! There's 20 yrs of history in a few sentences.
