About Me

Welcome!I've spent enough time in my life fiddling around Wisconsin to have a past! Hung around and played with the big country bands thru the late eighties and all thru the 90's, then had sort of a return to my acoustic beginnings and I have been playing more bluegrass and eary American music (from hillbilly to folk to early jazz to western/western-swing) for the past 10 years...alongside the country and variety.I'm still playing the heck out of my Zeta Stratos...and I really love its feel and response. I've been told by some that it sounds more acoustic, than an acoustic with a pickup - and I have to agree. Part of the success is my Pendelum pre-amp. I will tell you they ARE the best...and their service is impecable. But - an electric fiddle just can't always compare at to the acoustic violin...so my acoustic playing via a mic (AKG-1000s or a large diaphram condenser) has really increased too! While I have 8 or 9 acoustic "fiddles" - it's my latest acquisition you'll finding me play the most - a hand-finished violin done up by none other than Tim Monte of Mole Lake, WI and more recently Lake Stevens, WA. All I can say is what a great instrument - thanks Tim! UPDATE: I also just purchased an Art, Arthur Conner fiddle...wow - great sound! I'll be playing both vigorously out and about!Lastly, I've included a few songs on my page. I have many more ideas rattling around in my head and maybe I'll add another 2 or 3 down the road.I'm busy now with 3 kids and the best wife...plus an involved career as an IT professional of sorts...so I'm not as available to hire on the side...but I'll still try to get away with a new group and have fun (if the Packer game isn't on).btw - I also play mandolin, guitar (I'm really into my old archtop right now!), pedal steel, and my antique radios. There's nothing like listening to vintage music and old shows on a 1920's 1,2,3,4 or 5 tube battery powered radio...

Wish I could sound as good as George Jones is singing in this video from 1978...wow...I'm still convinced there's no one better in the Honky Tonk world then he was at his peak.

..

My 2 favorite singer of the honky-tonk genre...Gary Stewart...his sessions and the crying steel guitar made things hit home...

..

Wow, I had to add this one too...just too great to pass up. Listen to George and his band...good stuff!

What I play: Fiddle or pedal-steel or mandolin or archtop or dreadnaught...whatever I happen to be in the mood for!

New Fiddle!

Just picked up an "Art" Arthur Conner fiddle. Great sound, no wonder why Skaggs and Gene Elders both own one! I got a good deal from a music store near where Art lives, they had one that was in o...
