In 1995, Detour recorded a compact disc of original songs, entitled "More Than Black and White". Later, I released another compact disc, entitled "On My Own" featuring many of my recorded originals. Detour went on to accomplish many things, we made the Hodag feel like home, and we had success at the Country Show Downs. Over 11 years, we opened for many national acts and made many great friends. More importantly, I'm happy and blessed to have made quality friends along the way. Friends like James Stanley Howen (friends before, freinds forever), Don Dietsche, Fritz Kanucsak, John Gunn, Danny LaJeunesse, and Jonnie Sandman, to mention a few. I miss you guys and I'm happy the friendship lives on. To those of you whom I have been so lucky to meet during my time performing with Detour, Sly Billy, and Wild Heart, thanks for being so kind. You really were very good to me and I truly enjoyed getting to know you.:
Influences:I’m going to start listing these people as I think of them. There have been so many. First and foremost there was, is, and always will be James Stanley Howen. Jimmy’s influence cannot be measured by anything, but I can say that when it comes to him, "my heart is full". I think I got that from a movie. I still feel I was influenced significantly by Jim Croce. To this day, I like to think he’s my number one favorite (outside of the family of course ;o) My country heroes are George Strait, Alan Jackson, Gary Alan, Tim McGraw and so many more. As a teenager, Alabama surpassed all others as "what I wanted to hear, sing or play". In the eighties, I heard the best country voice I had ever heard (and that still stands today). That was the voice of Keith Whitley. I don’t want to get "all sad". So, I’ll just say that Keith’s passing was terrible and he was the best! As a singer in the nineties, I had to give all props to Garth Brooks. I was in complete awe when it came to watching him entertain. I can recall watching tapes of his live performance before leaving to play a gig - what an adrenalin kick...I’m getting older now, I find myself more and more attracted to storytelling songs and traditional country or rock.:
