From the humble upstart of his former label TrifeCity Records, to new beginnings with his current label Wood Boy Entertainment and a successful landscaping company "Yard Maintenance Plus,"as well as a variety of other businesses, Mario "3D straw" McCall is certainly a man with many hats. 3DSTRAW, more than just an artist. 3D straw brings fresh new light to an ever-growing music industry. "I'm REAL Carolina music," he boasts. He's proved this at appearances including the Hoke County Turkey Fest, DJ Flash Hood Party, the HOT 104.5 Block Party, Club Blackties, Club Kryptonite and various other venues.
Born and raised in Raeford, North Carolina, 3D straw began rapping in high school for attention. "Either you are the smartest or played sports. All I did was make money. Independent rap wasn't popular, so I did it to be different and attract the girls." In 1999 he started his own record label, TrifeCity Records, and was member of a group of high school and neighborhood friends called "Darkwatas." That following year, he released his first solo album "Soil of a 4th person" under the alias "Q4." However, 3D straw was not fully recognized for his talent and creativity until the release of the "Snap, Crackle, and Pop" EP and the "Lunchline" Mixtape. Wanting to further advance his career, 3D straw moved on to start Wood Boy Entertainment, a fully functioning entertainment company that includes a host of other rappers, singers, producers, business directors, and even a regular graphics artist. In 2005, 3Dstraw released "30 Flows: Da Woods Greatest Hits" Mixtape and has since garnished an extensive list of collaborations with artists such as Rollin' Weight, Collard Greens, Ferl Gates and JB. In 2007 he released his highly anticipated Sophomore album, "I Rap For Food," which features production from hitmakers such as the Beatmizers, Saki XL, and Git It Cuz. 3D straw is also featured on many mixtapes by DJ Chuck T, the Lord and Savior of Southern Mixtapes, and DJ Flash.
As an artist, 3D straw's music cannot be categorized, rather it is a never-ending story of real life. From struggling to come up in the industry, to partying, to money, to drama, to romance, 3D straw's music says it all, and not in a typical way. "The new south is here, let's make sure Carolina has a bigger part in it.
