LETZTE INSTANZ are back! Their music has always been referred to as an event, but their fifth release, Ins Licht (Into the Light), presents the seven musicians from a side that is exceptional in every way. They sound so lively, so unspent, so energetic, as if they were stepping into the limelight for the very first time - so the album title is certainly well chosen. Without doubt, the new vocalist has made a considerable contribution. "It's always an experiment to find a replacement for the singer's position," comments cellist Benni Cellini. LETZTE INSTANZ have taken the risk, enlisting Holly, the new man on the mike, and bringing the process to a successful conclusion. He's proved a stroke of luck for the tracks on the new album. His lyrics are based on haunting, clear pictures; his voice seeming to alternate playfully between different registers and pitches, focussing on and evoking the most diverse emotions, balancing out in terms of lyrics and vocals LETZTE INSTANZ's extremely varied and passionate music. In the beginning, there was renewal: the last few years have left their mark on LETZTE INSTANZ. The departure of three band members at once had the old line-up dissolve, although Kalter Glanz (2001) and Gtter auf Abruf (2003) had just demonstrated in which conflicting areas the group had operated since 1996. (Serious) crossover had never been considered a swearword in the LETZTE INSTANZ camp, it merely hinted at the lust for renewal that characterizes LETZTE INSTANZ to this day. While their early phase had been determined by an unconventional mix of folk and tough metal elements, Kalter Glanz and Gtter auf Abruf illustrate their transition into modernity in a different way, marking the path of a constantly developing collective in terms of composition: sinister gothic sounds, spirited folk, modern metal and classical music - LETZTE INSTANZ stop at nothing. The fact that they've returned relatively soon and suddenly, and certainly more powerful than ever, says something for LETZTE INSTANZ's extreme creative strength, the fresh breeze that has picked up with the arrival of the new musicians. This band has never seen itself as a mere partnership of convenience that has no links other than its music; which is why the process that Benni Cellini refers to as an "experiment" aimed at finding artistic partners likely to get involved personally on every level. This is one of the reasons why Ins Licht has turned into extremely passionate music. LETZTE INSTANZ have achieved this by connecting in some tracks the most characteristic and haunting moments of their previous work, while looking for something new in others. It's no exaggeration to describe this album as their most diverse to date. Guitarist Holly D. attests Ins Licht "a laughing and yet thoughtful side" finding the right words for this music that's homogeneous despite all those opposites. While "Sonne," "Tanz" and "Unerreicht" are danceable, catchy, muscle-twitching bolides, "Sandmann," - its lyrics penned by vocalist Holly for his daughter - appears balladesque, and "Womit die Welt begann" or the fragile "Silber im Stein" burst with yearning, poetry, melancholia. Everything flows on this album, densely arranged and emotionally charged. That all the instruments stand on an equal level alongside each other corresponds to the self-conception of a bigband. While in some acts, strings merely serve to add a disputable extra bonus, LETZTE INSTANZ have that unconditional musicality that enforces an organic sonic picture. "Das Stimmlein" is LETZTE INSTANZ's definite declaration of belief in Germany's alternative music scene: the support of respected colleagues, such as Eric Fish (Subway To Sally), Thomas Lindner (Schandmaul) and Sven Friedrich (Zeraphine), was enlisted for the recording of a song on the subject of a group helping to draw out the energies of an individual. This closing of ranks can be seen as an expression of strengthened self-confidence. There is great music that transports emotions and has something to say - LETZTE INSTANZ have been a good example of this positive development on the musical landscape. Ins Licht as a complete work of art speaks of confidence and is the expression of a musical collective that has never allowed itself to be bent out of shape. In their new constellation, LETZTE INSTANZ have almost reinvented themselves with this album. Or rather: LETZTE INSTANZ have found themselves at last!

Die LETZTE INSTANZ ist zurck! Zwar muss ihre Musik seit ehedem ein Ereignis genannt werden. Erst Ins Licht aber, ihre fnfte Verffentlichung, zeigt die sieben Musiker in einer Verfassung, die in jeder Hinsicht auergewhnlich ist. Sie klingen darauf so vital, so unverbraucht, so energetisch als trten sie den Titel haben sie nicht nur deshalb klug gewhlt! zum ersten Mal ins Licht der ffentlichkeit. Groen Anteil daran hat unanzweifelbar der neue Snger. Die Sngerposition neu zu besetzten", sagt Cellist Benni Cellini, ist immer ein Experiment." Mit Holly, dem neuen Mann am Mikrofon, hat die LETZTE INSTANZ dieses Experiment gewagt und zu einem erfolgreichen Abschluss gebracht. Am Anfang aber stand die Erneuerung: Die vergangenen Jahre sind an der LETZTEN INSTANZ nicht eben reibungslos vorbeigegangen. Der Rckzug von gleich drei Mitmusikern hat das alte Line-Up zerfallen lassen. Dabei haben Kalter Glanz (2001) und Gtter auf Abruf (2003) zuvor sehr genau herausgearbeitet, in welchem Spannungsfeld sich die Gruppe seit 1996 bewegt. (Ernsthafter) Crossover hat ihnen nie als Schimpfwort gegolten, eher auf den Erneuerungswillen blicken lassen, der die LETZTE INSTANZ noch heute auszeichnet. Whrend ihre Frhphase eine eigenwillige Mischung aus Elementen der Folk- und der harten Metalmusik bestimmt, nehmen Kalter Glanz und Gtter auf Abruf den Schritt in die Moderne auf ganz unterschiedliche Weise, zeichnen den Weg eines sich kompositorisch permanent entwickelnden Kollektivs nach: dstere Gothic-Klnge, beschwingter Folk, moderner Metal und Klassik gar vor nichts schrecken sie zurck. Einer rigorosen Einordnung hat sich die LETZTE INSTANZ damit schon immer entzogen. Es spricht also fr die auerordentliche kreative Strke der LETZTEN INSTANZ, fr den frischen Wind, der mit den neuen Musikern aufgekommen ist, dass sie sich mit Ins Licht relativ schnell und pltzlich, sicherlich kraftvoller denn je zurckmelden. Als eine bloe Zweckgemeinschaft, die ber die Musik hinaus nichts verbindet, hat die LETZTE INSTANZ sich nie verstanden. Und deshalb wird der von Benni Cellini als Experiment" umrissene Prozess darauf abgezielt haben, knstlerische Partner zu finden, die sich auch menschlich auf allen Ebenen einbringen. Musik auerordentlicher Leidenschaft das ist Ins Licht auch aus diesem Grund geworden. Die LETZTE INSTANZ hat das erreicht, indem sie in einigen Stcken die charakteristischsten und eindringlichsten Momente ihrer bisherigen Musik verbindet, in anderen etwas gnzlich Neues versucht. Man untertreibt keineswegs, wenn man dieses Album als ihr vielseitigstes bezeichnet. Eine lachende und trotzdem nachdenkliche Seele" attestiert Gitarrist Holly D. Ins Licht und findet damit treffende Worte fr eine trotz aller Gegenstzlichkeiten homogene Musik. Whrend Sonne", Tanz" und Unereicht" tanzbare, eingngige, mit den Muskeln zuckende Boliden sind, mutet Sandmann", dessen Text Snger Holly fr seine Tochter geschrieben hat, balladesk an, zerbersten Womit die Welt begann" oder das fragile Silber im Stein" vor Sehnsucht, vor Poesie, vor Wehmut. Kein Grund aber atmosphrische Brche zu befrchten: Alles fliet auf diesem Album, ist gleichermaen dicht arrangiert und emotional aufgeladen. Dass alle Instrumente gleichberechtigt neben einander stehen, entspricht einem Selbstverstndnis, das durchaus an eine Bigband gemahnt. Whrend Streicher bei mancher anderen Band etwa blo dazu dienen, einen gewissen, einen fragwrdigen Exotenbonus zu besorgen, gebietet die LETZTE INSTANZ ber die unbedingte Musikalitt, ein organisches Klangbild zu forcieren. Dass Sigi Bemms Woodhouse Studios (u. a. Tiamat, The Gathering, Farmer Boys ) die richtige Wahl sind, aus einer vielschichtigen Musik jede Facette, jede Nuance herauszuholen, sollte dabei nicht extra erwhnt werden mssen.Kleines Stimmlein, stell dir vor, krftiger wrst du im Chor" (aus Das Stimmlein")
Mit Das Stimmlein" bekennt die LETZTE INSTANZ sich eindeutig zur hiesigen, alternativen Musikszene: Fr dieses Lied, das davon handelt, dass erst die Gruppe die Energien des Einzelnen richtig hervorzubringen vermag, hat man sich mit Eric Fish (Subway To Sally), Thomas Lindner (Schandmaul) und Sven Friedrich (Zeraphine) respektierte Kollegen ins Boot geholt. Der gemeinsame Schulterschluss darf als Ausdruck eines gestrkten Selbstbewusstsein gesehen werden. Es gibt gute Musik, die Emotionen transportiert und etwas zusagen hat die LETZTE INSTANZ ist seit Jahren ein gutes Beispiel fr diese positive Entwicklung in der Musiklandschaft. Ins Licht als Gesamtwerk strotzt vor Selbstbewusstsein und ist Ausdruck eines musikalischen Kollektivs, dass sich nie hat verbiegen lassen. Die LETZTE INSTANZ hat sich mit diesem Album in vernderter Konstellation beinahe neu erfunden. Besser gesagt: die LETZTE INSTANZ hat sich endlich gefunden!
