About Me
FRANCA MASU possesses a voice which echoes the crashing waves of the Mediterranean and pierces deeply into the emotions of all those who have the privilege of hearing it. She has recently gained international renown thanks to her wide range of styles and seemingly effortless ability to interpret sounds hailing from far off lands, such as Argentina. In fact, it was immediately tango which was born from the first musical rendezvous between Masu, the pianist, composer and arranger Oscar Del Barba and accordion player Fausto Beccalossi, giving way to an emotional relationship with this musical style when the three artists first met in the year 2004. Ever since, the trio has mastered the art of coalescing various artistic forms of music and dance into one melodic marriage in which the tango prevails, although it is not alone. Milongas and candombas, two styles born along the banks of the RÃo de la Plata in South America, as well as waltzes, are some of the other sounds which the ensemble proposes, bringing forth a contemporary take on popular styles and some of the most famous tangos of renowned Italo-argentine composer Astor Piazzolla, redressed in a fresh and innovative sound.
HOY COMO AYER (Aramúsica) is the latest work by Franca Masu, which she herself lives and breathes as a veritable “journey of love†across the Argentine musical panorama, together with two grand musicians and artists, Del Barba and Beccalossi, and special guest Carlo Cantini of the Arké String Quartet on the violin.
HOY COMO AYER reveals a retrospective itinerary, gazing with undeniable nostalgia into the past, while delivering at the same time the pure personal interpretation of the trio, at times classical, others laden with improvs, a product of the “magical energy†which is intrinsic of the tango. Franca Masu enriches her repertoire with exquisite moments loaded with intensity and expression, manifesting an artistic temperament with the strong Porteño accent that she is able to achieve thanks to her profound interpretive sensitivity.
