(SELF PORTRAIT. 2003 oil on canvas. 4x6 feet, collection Peter Cusumano, FL.)I am an artist.Pixie-like French/Sicilian/Irish girly-girl tomboy with a mighty roar. Purr like a pussycat most of the time. Life is sweet. Painter of dreams and joy and hurt feelings and your eyes and the doughnut you left half-eaten on the nightstand and naked angels smoking cigarettes and beautiful ugly things and ugly beautiful things and and and and... Live a spooky-silly existence. I like Play-Doh, especially the way it smells. And brown clay between my fingers. Soil under my fingernails in the garden and sunburned shoulders. I feel too much for my own good. I identify with Amelie.I love people and their stories. I adore artists and writers and musicians and shiny souls.I love to use giant paintbrushes and big canvasses and climb up on ladders and make a big mess while dancing around to indie nyc bands at top volume, am in love with Curious George, and I have a fetish for wearing mens' boxer briefs while i work. And nothing else but maybe flip flops and a smile. Mostly. Otherwise tear-stained... but it's all good. I will not tolerate insincerity, lies, or rude people. "As within, so without..." was one of the wondrous things I learned during my two years painting, meditating, and studying the Bhagavad Gita at an ashram. (ALICE 2003 watercolor/oil on board 14x20 Private collection)I go on long silent walks for the sole purpose of observing the beauty in all things, even those deemed ugly by the status quo. Anti-status quo. I love my friends with open arms/heart/mind. Give great hug. Ahem. (One of my first drawings, circa 1976.Bic Banana Markers on paper with stickers. Have you ever seen a skunk on a diving board before????)Playing is of utmost importance in order to keep my head on straight, or just the right bit crooked, in a world that takes itself too seriously. Giggling is good. Belly laughing is better. Cocoa Puffs and Fruity Pebbles are grrreat to eat in bed with a lover. Before, during, or after. Pillow fights rock. (SPIRIT SCHOOL 2004 oil on canvas. 38x38. Collection Desiree Esquivel, NYC) I grew up in Montauk Point and East Hampton on the ocean and spent much of my life in the water. The ocean is my lovelovelove. Trees too. Fresh air, sunshine, feeding the birds, crickets' lullaby at bedtime...skiing in fresh powder, swimming in cool water, basking in the summer sun. (CRIMSON NUDE 1998 oil on board. 12x24. Collection Lisa Cullen, NYC)HONESTY RULES. "You are only as sick as your secrets" I am a brutally honest woman. If you can't take the heat, get out of my Italian kitchen! I can smell BS from 100 miles away so do not even go there!!! (BLUE NUDE oil on canvas 36x48. 2007)I have left behind many fragments of my soul hanging with love in homes all over the country and overseas.... works in over ***(insert your guess here) private collections but I only let that slip occasionally lest I sound like yet another self centered nyc artist....zzzzzzzzz. Yeah, i know i am. BAHAHAHA how obnoxious. Solipsism is acceptable as long as it's authentic. GRACE. Every day, all day.The unseen is more powerful than we know. Solidity is illusory. Carpe diem. DO THE RIGHT THING. Draw portraits on dinner napkins. Giggle uncontrollably at inappropriate moments. Play and dance and sing reallyreallyloud and skip naked down deserted streets in summer and let your lover push you through the grocery store in the baby seat of a shopping cart. LOVE with all your might for you may not see tomorrow... "Self Portrait". Found Objects"identification" 2004 collage on parchment "what i want/do not want" 2005 oil on wood 12x32.
