About the Metamorphs
In a world divided between automatons asleep in the mainstream flow, and those who view life on earth as a path to spiritual enlightenment, the Metamorphs emerge as a musical force to wake up the walking dead and mobilize the conscious-minded into action…Composed of three powerful MC’s ---Mobius, Sum-in-1, and the Seer--- each with their own distinct style and DJ Leviathan, who produces several of the beats, the Metamorphs are dedicated to creating compelling hip hop music. When they perform together their diverse techniques combine to create an electric energy that is undeniable – an immediacy in performance that is rarely seen in today’s hip hop arena.
The Metamorphs formed in the summer of 2001 and released their EP, Illuminedstates a year and a half later. This initial album is a multifaceted listening experience that explores a range of ideas, from the ill fate of America’s collective ambivalence on “Oedipal American,†to the current state of the hip hop community on “Rhythm of Life.†While Illuminedstates is raw enough to grab your attention on the first listen, it reveals its true complexity through deeper examination. The second track on the album, “Pride†is included on the internationally released promotional compilation The Crate Diggers EXP (www.cratediggers.com), also featuring Aceyalone, Pep Love, Abstract Rude, J-Roz, Dr. Oop, KRS-ONE, and the Living Legends. Since 2003, The Metamorphs have performed at venues all over Southern California, opening up for such notable acts as A Tribe Called Quest, Krs-One, Cypress Hill, Dilated Peoples, Sugar Hill Gang, Ozomatli, the Visionaries, the Living Legends, Oh No, Abstract Rude, Crown City Rockers, Aloe Blacc, Prince Po, Planet Asia, Craig G, Ugly Duckling, Sy Smith, C-Rayz Walz, LMNO, and many more.
In June 2007, The Metamorphs released their full length LP, Stepping Stones. This album, which represents a logical progression from the intellectual overtones of Illuminedstates, is jam packed with fast moving, uplifting hip hop tracks. The Metamorphs have already completed two music videos for the album, including one for the title track, “Stepping Stones.†Directed by Carey “CDUB†Williams, the video was shot on 35mm film amongst the urban decay of downtown Los Angeles. The other, “Smooth and Collective,†also directed by CDUB is a full color 35 mm ‘day in the life’ of the Metamorphs. With the upcoming release of their full next full length LP (Age of the Gods) just around the corner, the Metamorphs look forward to continue spreading their energetic sound and progressive message to audiences worldwide.
