Chevron formed in 1999 with original members, James (drums), Matt (guitar) and Grahame (bass and vocals). In 2002, the first EP, Blueprint, was concocted. 6 tracks show how far the songwriting had come. Rockier songs like Better Days and Drone sit nicely alongside the punky Subspace and recent set opener, the lo-fi Man Made Design. All the members of the group by this point were writing lyrics and the three viewpoints of the world and the general state of play made for interesting reading. The three guys were inseparable, and although Matt was due to go to Bath to study, Chevron was never going to fall apart. A few more gigs ensued and a few glowing local press reviews were written. The band, as a kind of round off before Matt went away, went into the studio to record their most ambitious single yet. This co-incided with two appearances on the in-house Farnborough College of Technology television station, which was a fun experience for all involved.
The two track double A-side of NeverEnding Icewebs and Its Not That Bad shows an underlying maturity in both lyrical and musical content. Indeed, Icewebs is an ode to author Elizabeth Wurtzel and Its Not That Bad is an epic ballad that will have the hairs on the back of your neck standing up come the dramatic finale. With one final gig to send off Matt, Grahame and James continued to write new material in his absence. Although gigging was put on the back burner for a while, peoples interest never waned. Not wanting to disappoint, and because the gig bug was always in the background, Matt agreed to travel the long distance from Bath to London to play. Gigs within London were now sort after and one place had the courage to put the unknown band on. One trouble was though, getting enough practice to make it worthwhile. And thats where Laura Ralph came in. for the rest of the story visit our website!......
