The Old Angel is Nottinghams finest pub and the best place in the British Empire and beyond for live, in-your-face, rock music.
Situated in the historic Lace Market, The Old Angel is a traditional drinkers pub - you won't find posh gastro-grub or 200 expensive wines on offer - but you will get a good pint of well kept beer or cask ale and the friendliest staff and atmosphere - as well as a great menu of real pub food.
Kasabian, Oasis and The Arctic Monkeys are just some of the famous bands that have played our venue as they kicked off their long road to stardom by playing in pubs up and down the country. In Nottingham, there is only one venue for unsigned and up-and-coming bands across all genres and you are guaranteed a electrifying, raw, in-your-face experience unlike any other venue. And you never know, the band you are watching might just be on the verge of something big - and you can say you were there, right at the start...
The Old Angel is one of the oldest real pubs in Nottingham and has stood in The Lace Market since at least the 1600's. The Grade II Listed building has a long and colourful history - it has been the site of two murders (a policeman and a prostitute!) and was formerly both a brothel and a chapel. The building is still said to be haunted by the ghost of the young prositute - her soul trapped forever in the ancient walls.
Deep underneath the pub - down steep winding stairs below the beer cellar, are caves, hollowed out of the sub-soil in the shape of a crucifix and although the old Chapel with its double height ceilings is now the famous gig venue, the old church pews lie upstairs, perfectly preserved, a relic of the buildings ancient history.
