..Stay Safe Seattle (also known as S-Cubed or S3 for short) started out a chapter of the nationally renowned DanceSafe, a non-profit harm reduction organization promoting health and safety within the youth music community. Recently, we've grown into our own--Stay Safe Seattle--providing the same heath and safety services, but tailored to serve our very home and community, based in Seattle, Washington.
Our basic activity is staffing harm reduction booths at raves, nightclubs, and other dance events, where we distribute condoms, earplugs, general safety information, and educational material about drugs and their effects.
In regards to our policy on drugs, we utilize a "harm reduction" approach, which means we offer non-abstentionist health and safety information. While abstention is the best way to avoid the harms associated with drug use, we recognize that there will always be people who use drugs, despite prohibition, harsh penalties, and other risks involved. Our goal, therefore, is to reduce drug-related harm by providing accurate drug information and useful health and safety services to people who wish to stay informed or choose, for whatever reason, to use drugs recreationally. We focus our efforts on the majority of non-addicted drug users who choose to use recreationally. We do not provide services for addicted users, and always refer such users to the appropriate organizations who handle drug dependency issues.
Stay Safe is currently run by several dedicated officers and volunteers in the community. S3 is a completely nonprofit organization, and everyone who helps with our events is a volunteer receiving no compensation for their help. If you would like to find out more about joining Stay Safe Seattle and becoming a volunteer, please feel free to send us an inquiry! S3 is always excited to welcome new faces to our organization!
