CRIMEDESK -Four piece Old Skool Punk band fae Fife
About Me
Crimedesk were formed in Glenrothes January 1979 by some punks who were inspired by the DIY attitude of punk bands - and loved the music. Most of the band members were previously in a short-lived band called The Burnt Curtains.
The original line up for Crimedesk was:
Lindsay - Vocals, Alan - Guitar, Rod - Bass, John - Drums.
The first live performance was at Newcastle Primary School in Glenrothes during the summer of 1979. More gigs followed in Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy during the remainder of the year. In November 1979 Crimedesk recorded some tracks at the Lomond Centre Recording Studio. The songs were recorded with Alan on lead vocals as well as guitar - Lindsay having left the band the previous day.
The band continued briefly as a three piece playing a few gigs in Fife until a replacement for Lindsay was found. Kenny then joined Crimedesk as lead singer. This line up continued for several months with the band playing a number of gigs throughout Fife. Rod and Kenny then left and formed another band - Bear. Rod’s replacement on bass in Crimedesk was Steve and Alan again became lead singer and guitarist. During this period Arms Race was recorded. This was to become Crimedesk’s first single, released on a now highly sought after EP on Newtown Products DIY label.
Not long after the single was released, Lindsay (who had also joined the Crimedesk splinter group Bear by this time) rejoined Crimedesk as lead singer and this line up gigged a few more times during 1981, playing with other Fife bands such as Patrol from Leven and Nationwide from Kirkcaldy.
From around 1982 to 1996 the band was dormant. Then, in 1996 Crimedesk regrouped with the original line up and for a few months regularly visited Q10 Studios in Glenrothes for rehearsals and also recorded a few tracks for fun.
After another few more years of inactivity, Crimedesk returned to Q10 Studios in 2001 and after a couple of rehearsal sessions played a live set at Lindsay’s wedding reception in December. The venue was the Kenmore Hotel - it was always going to be a one-off gig. During the summer of 2007, despite band members living all over Scotland, Crimedesk reformed and began rehearsing at Clearwater Studios in Perth. In November 2007 they headlined the Baggershambles music event in Crieff. The band enjoyed it so much they have invested in some new gear, T-Shirts and badges and are now gigging and have recorded some tracks at Clearwater and may release an EP (old fashioned term!).....to be continued
