About Me

What can you say about Johnny Polygon that won’t make a person laugh, cry, sigh or have the cops knocking on your door asking where you were the night before. Johnny Polygon is an experience. Starting as a b-boy and break-dancer in his youth because it looked fun and then witnessing the art of rapping and just knowing that he could do it better than the local talent that surrounded him. That may seem cocky, but Johnny, at age 14 possessed a natural talent that grew in the modest city of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Raw and untrained he had the ear to find the right beat and turn it into a canvas for his stories.Johnny’s influences include Motown and rhythmic rock, Slick Rick, Tupac Shakur, and Lauren Hill. Being involved in a local theater group and participating in rap battles like Scribble Jam helped develop a sense of stage presence and be able to project to his audience. After surviving on the underground Midwest scene for several years, touring with the 2004 WARPED TOUR, releasing albums “Journey to I”, “Plan B”, “Soldier and the Dancer”, and “Leggo My Ego” among others, Johnny headed out to the west coast. Meeting up with producer Bruce Yi , creating a partnership, “cRAP”, placing one of their first songs "Rebel" in the opening of the Major Motion Picture "30 Days" starring Taye Diggs, Da Brat, and Rev Run... and recently releasing “Johnny Polygon and Bruce Yi Present: Johnny Polygon and Bruce Yi” as their introduction to the Los Angeles hip-hop crowd. With his extensive back catalog of recorded music showcasing his melody and rapping as well as his singing skills, Johnny is his biggest critic. He would never say that he was the best at anything but leaving that judgment up to the people willing to listen and walks away with new fans after every show. Johnny Polygon has enjoyed every stage he’s stepped on including the Knitting Factory and the Roxy. He has opened for De La Soul, KRS-1, and the Beatnuts, and received personal compliments from Ice Cube, KRS-1, and DMC of Run DMC.Never stopping to rest on his laurels, Johnny has started a group with up-and-comer Johanna Phraze called “The United States of Tulsa” featuring Gabe Real , both childhood friends and Oklahoma natives. He is also working with notable producers Dan Chase and DJ Green Lantern, whom “discovered” him when Lantern witnessed him on MusicNation.com where Johnny placed as a semifinalist in a competition out of hundreds of other talented rappers.Constantly writing and creating music, Johnny’s talent inspires those who choose to work with him. With all of these positive motions happening, Johnny Polygon is getting ready for bigger and better things. I can't wait to see what else comes our way.
