Down With The Butterfly began in 2005 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Their music is intense, beautiful, and insightful. Over the years the group's dynamic sound has been created by David Scholten, Kris Pope, Ian Sherwood, Jason Burns, Jessie Tessolin, Kinley Dowling, Don Brownrigg, Sean MacGilvray, Haley Thomas, Dylan Ryan, Don MacKay, Dennis Goodwin, Jenn Grant, Tanya Davis, Benn Ross, David Christensen, Tim Baker, as well as many other musical friends. Their ECMA award nominated debut album, RISE, was released in June of 2006 and the band has toured from Newfoundland to Ontario in support of it.
If art is plagiarism or revolution, Down With The Butterfly incorporated ideas from the past in order to express their hopes for a better future. They have been raised by TV radicals like the Kids In The Hall, and learned pop music from the Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, and Wilco. Down With The Butterfly were not raised by the Internet or cell-phones. They remember when people listened to albums, not ringtones.
Down With The Butterfly has recorded "old" material in Halifax at David's house, at the Echo Chamber with Charles Austin, and at Spaces Between with Don MacKay, but it still remains unreleased. The members of Down With The Butterfly are currently creating music with other bands so keep your ears and eyes open 'cause you never know where they might appear.
