Cello Diva

Sally Maer began playing the cello at the age of five, being accepted into London’s Royal Academy of Music Junior School just three years later. At the Royal Academy proper she completed an honours degree and cemented her skills as a performer in various orchestras and chamber ensembles, as well as her own extra-curricular program of band and busking gigs.Since moving to Australia in the 1990s, Sally has performed with the West Australian Symphony, the Sydney Symphony and the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestras, several chamber ensembles, including The Peter Sculthorpe Quartet whom she travelled to Gallipoli with in 2005 to be part of the Dawn Service on Anzac day. Sally has worked with a great range of artists from Delta Goodrem, to Kanye West and from David Hobson to Wendy Matthews.Now residing in Sydney, Sally has realised a long-held dream to release an album of music she feels audiences will connect with as much as she does. After being signed to ABC Classics, Cello Diva’s album ‘Bed of Roses’ has had regular air play on Classic FM in both Australia and the UK including a special broadcast from the Sydney Royal Easter show hosted by Damien Beaumont. Other live appearances were on James Valentine’s radio show on ABC Sydney and Louise Maher’s Drive show on ABC Canberra. During these broadcasts, listeners phoned in to say how much the music had moved them.‘Bed of Roses’ was recorded in Sydney’s ABC studios with the orchestra Sinfonia Australis and is the result of a life led with eyes wide open and a heart full of music.
