KABARETTI write and perform cabaret, and am the piano playing half of cabaret/artsong duo 'une fois seule!' (bad French for 'one night only!' just in case you were wondering). My partner is the wonderful Nadia Piave, gelato-maker-extraordinaire and soprano-about-town. We perform everything from Peggy Lee to the Police, Tom Waits to Tom Jones, Benjamin Britten to Jacques Brel and everything in between (and I mean everything). Here's a video of us performing "Black Max (As Told by the De Koonig Boys)" by William Bolcom and Arnold Weinstein.Sometimes we augment and become "The Bugger's Opera". Our 2007 Bugger's Opera was called.... *drumroll* "Copacabugger!!"Stay tuned for my brand new solo cabaret show coming up soon...CHORAL MUSIC Yes, that's right. Choirs!! Contrary to popular opinion, choral music is not boring. I'm a conductor and pianist with Sydney Children's Choir and with Gondwana Voices, Australia's national children's choir. Our mission is to bring great Australian music for children's voices to the world. In 2007, Gondwana Voices toured to Canada, France and the UK and Sydney Children's Choir toured to Finland, Estonia and Denmark. It was absolutely marvelous!!I also am sometime conductor of a little queer choir called "Door in the Wall". Our most recent concert was a tribute to 30 years of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras called "bRAVE"The Door in the Wall also form the chorus for The Bugger's Opera Company (see, it's all coming full circle). Essentially, I believe in community arts. I've done quite a lot of arranging for various choirs including the Australian Pop Choirs, the Leichhardt Espresso Chorus, the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Choir, the Melbourne Gay and Lesbian Chorus, Sydney Chamber Choir and for several schools. I'm the newly appointed Musical Director of the Sydney Pop Choir. We've just done our first big concert with myself at the helm, as it were. It was called "Choir at Work"CHAMBER MUSIC I'm into new music, and have worked with various new/experimental ensembles like Halcyon, Aark and Ensemble Offspring.DANCE ACCOMPANIST I love playing music for dancers, music that helps them get higher into the air, or turn faster, or be really *connected* to the floor, or whatever. It makes me nostalgic for my dancing past... Anyway, I play regularly for Sydney Dance Company, and have also played for Bangarra Dance Theatre, Opera Australia, The Australian Ballet School, the Royal New Zealand Ballet and Matthew Bourne's company (who do that wonderful "Swan Lake" with the male swans. Yay!)OTHER... My lovely partner Glennda and I have just opened our multi-arts space... it's a gallery, it's a rehearsal venue, it's an art studio, it's whatever kind of creative space you want it to be! Our first event was entitled "Unplugged" and featured photographic works by Sydney artist Angus Young and unplugged performances by Nadia Piave, soprano, Rachel Scott, 'cello and myself on piano. We are truly unplugged, (none of our instruments plug into the wall and we are a microphone-free-zone. Woo yeah!)
