Steel Town Sounds brings a multitude of musical experience and talent into the hip-hop production scene. It was in 1998 when lifelong friends Chuck Prez (trained as a jazz musician who wanted to get into hip-hop after a lifelong exposure in the genre), approached Mac Dilly (a DJ and guitarist who also happened to be nice on the m.i.c.) about doing a weekly hip-hop radio show at what was then known as WPSM (now WMKP The Roar, a Pittsburgh-based Penn State University branch campus), the beginning of Steel Town Sounds was at hand.
Although "The Show" was one of the most listened to on the campus, from 1999 to 2001, the pair put hip-hop on the back burner temporarily to fulfill prior commitments. By the end of 2001, Chuck Prez began the foray back into hip-hop, this time using his talents to produce. By the Beginning of 2002 Mac Dilly was also back in the scene; first as a DJ to cut up hooks then also teaming up to collaborate on beats. By the end of 2002, Steel Town Sounds was beginning to make noise with emcees approaching them for beats. The first official Steel Town track produced was an unreleased joint by Tanya Morgan member Ilyas in late 2003, followed up by the cult classic "Shots and Shots and Shots" with Che Grand and Donwill in mid 2004. By late 2005, Steel Town Sounds was gaining a buzz and began to develop their own projects.
Already, the Steel Town Crew is showing the world how they differ from the rest with the release of their debut mixtape WSTS: THE REMIX AND BLENDS SHOW, available now from Loud Minority Music . Steel Town Sounds beats will also be featured on albums by Che Grand, Noñameko, and ID, STEEL TOWN SOUNDS PRESENTS THE CITY OF CHAMPIONS REMIX LP featuring remixes of tracks from emcees from their hometown of Pittsburgh, PA (coming OCTOBER 2007), and WSTS: THE REMIX AND BLENDS SHOW VOLUME 2 (coming JULY 2008). Keep an eye out on these talented producers from the City of Champions in the future and beyond!
