I seem to update this once a year so...
If you are here, there is a good chance you have heard this story by now. I started making beats about 6 years ago. After piecing together the Pickled Beats Prhaject 'Nothigns Perfect' with Macon GA's DJ Roger Riddle, I started an idea known as dumhi. The plan was to create projects by collaborating with other like minded artists and simply to have as much fun as we could in the process.
The first collaborators I had the pleasure of meeting and working with were NJ emcee ShamelessPlug and DC vocal veteran MashComp. One song became two, became three, became 2005's independently released 'Vote DUMHI'. It was honestly equal parts art, experiment, expression and keg party. I think all of these elements were obvious in the music and perhaps that what the few people who heard it actually liked about it.
It wasn't long before plans for a follow up were in effect. 2006's 'They Call Me Bruce' became a bit of a statement project for all of us. I think we wanted to show that we were more than just recorded jokes and drunkeness. According to several online reviews, we accomplished just that. Emcees Flud (Bk) and Brown (Stl), who had both appeared on 'Vote', took much more prominent roles and 'Bruce' was appropriately released on 4/20/2006 to a flurry of positive reviews. Rapreviews.com called the song 'Yao Ming' one of the most important indie hiphop songs of 2006 and MusicforAmerica.com predicted record deals in our future.
2007 brought no such deals however.
Instead it brought a mini tour with some of the most exciting artists in independent music, a mixtape called 'i am dumhi', a move back to Philadelphia for me, and of course, another album project.
'3 Seats from Heaven' was released in late 2007 and was once again met with praise from many critics. This project once again featured Mash, Plug, and Flud handling the majority of the emceeing and I handled all of the music. I am not gonna describe this one to you. Listen to 'Toast of the Town' above and you can tell me what you think in our comment section.
So now.. you are here and you obviously care a little bit if you have read this far down so.. whats next?
Spring 2008- dumhi presents.. Fermented Spirits, 'Demystification'.
This is a project that was started in 2004 and has sat for a long time. I really hope you check it out tho. 'Demsytification' contains a lot more singing and spoken word styled songs than my dumhi work and really has quite a different vibe. It is a collaboration with singer/ poet/ musician MicheleQJ and features VonPea, Soulbrotha, Donwill, Flud, and many more. The project should be available in a couple weeks so stay tuned. Until then.. listen to 'Lose' and 'Special' in the player above.
Summer 2008- dumhi presents... Yoga At Home Vol. 1
I am very excited about this. It is an Ep featuring Sadat X, Randombeats, TrekLife, Kay of the Foundation, VonPea, and many more. I am going to talk about this more but...
I've just realized I typed entirely too much for this bio section and I should be watching tv with my wife...
I will be back to edit..
PEACE!
