What you hear on this page only makes up a small portion of the larger musical journey upon which I'll be embarked for the next 90 years or so, but hey, they only let us post a few songs at a time. *shrug*
BUT, if you want to hear some other music I'm working on, I've got a little more at
MY SOUNDCLICK .
Alláh'u'abhá.
What we so often forget is that music, the music we make and listen to, is a form of expression. Perhaps the most readily identifiable and philosophically expansive artform is that of the visual realm, but music follows closely.
And so, if you're making music but aren't even attempting to infuse in it the spirit of expression, is it music after all? Such a determination is really made on the receiving end, but I will wager that purposeful expression lends an intangible strength to music that would otherwise lack it. Not even the "soul" that is so freely and superficially bandied about, but something much more subtle and personal.
Ergo, that's all I'm really trying to do...make some music guided by my personal aesthetic and principles. If someone digs it, cool. If someone gives me $$ for it, even better.
It must be noted that, as a composer who fed himself on classical traditions and method while growing up, I approach music always from the standpoint of creation. I don't do so well cataloguing songs, remembering artist names, etc., but I can tell you what places a joint in a certain genre, style, era, on and on...but that's because I'm not worried about the song, I'm worried about the music. One person sees bags of sand, and the other sees lots and lots of sand that happens to be in bags.
Meh, I got bored and filled this crap out--

Music:

Influences: Some of the greats, but more of the genius types who were slept on, the ones who insisted on living by the philosophy of musical exploration and discovery rather than musical exploitation and disgustery. I'm not your usual scholar of musicians and acts, so more than likely I'll recognize a style, song, or compositional technique long before I'll have a name to rattle off.
Sounds Like: the result of a classical composer exploring so far out of the bounds of traditional Western classical art music forms that he stumbles across what would APPEAR to be completely unrelated disciplines and genres...and, knowing in his mind that such disparate musics are of one accord, proceeds to integrate them in intricately woven textures and in a gritty take on the usual aesthetic of refinement and order.
