GOODBYE TO YESTERDAY: Tempest (Silverwood)
Tempest features five of Rock's true heroes, Paul James on vocals and guitar, Graham Oliver on guitar (founding member of legendary metal band Saxon), Mark DeVanche ..boards (FM), Simon Hodges on bass (Huey Lewis) and Paul Oliver on drums (Motorhead). A "Super-group" if you will. Sometimes super-groups result in something bland; a collection of musicians from other bands that get together to make something weaker than what their individual members can create. Thankfully, this rock and roll ensemble does not fail. The band's debut release, 'Goodbye To Yesterday' has the making of becoming a rock and roll classic. What they have produced is an interesting mixture of every rock genre. For those of you that like your rock served up with a dash of the blues you have, "Glistening Waters", featuring the soulful vocals of Paul James combined with Oliver's bluesy guitar work. For those who like to groove there is, "Burning Fields", which opens with Simon Hodges groove laden bass line before the band joins in to kick out the jams. Now for you AOR buffs there is, "Running Wild", that has the AOR flare to it that will get your blood flowing in no time flat and the titled track is another solid ball of rock that is guaranteed to satisfy.
Tempest is indescribably good and one does hope they will manage to produce some more material. This album is for everyone who grew up in the late 70's and early 80's who wants to relive the good old' days. I'm sure it will bring back some great memories for anyone growing up during that time. I know it did for me. Tempest really put it together here and fans of good rock and roll music will truly enjoy this. Amazing job guys, Cheers! - The Atomic Chaser
