The Power of One and I

About Me

AhoyI was spawned in Africa... Apparently the whole thing about adventure and excitement runs in the bloodline. My family is originally from Europe, but they moved down to Southern Africa(Rhodesia at the time), post WWII. Apparently it all started with my Grandads stint in the Legion, and he fell in love with the continent... I figure theres not much to love about the French Foreign Legion!Ive had from an early age an insatiable desire to be live and work in one of the most incredible zoos in the world... The African bush veld.Im for want of a better word a professional guide. I take people out walking into the bush to track lions, elephants and buffalo, and get them back to camp preferably in one piece! My job is know everything there is to know about the enviroment in which I work in. Subtle changes in animal body language(which believe me can save your life), through to ecology of the areas I work in. Astronomy, botony, medicinal uses of plants, every single tree and bird thats out there, and the list goes on. You have to be a profficient mechanic and have some medical training, because if the shit hits the fan, you are a long way out in the sticks and there aint no ambulance thats gonna come and fetch you!My profession takes me to some pretty amazing places, I have seen some pretty amazing things. Africa is harsh; an extremely harsh place and the only thing that is certain, is uncertainty. Ive have seen death, many times... Ive seen suffering, more suffering than one can imagine. But its the good stuff thats kept me out here, and when its good... Its damn fine! When I am not in the bush, you can find me cracking on in my studio - paint and photography... I love those two guys!

My Interests

Broad spectrum here: Obviously the outdoors has great appeal. Im into all sorts of extreme sports. I dont collect stamps, and Im not interested in politics, particularly African Politics - because its as fake as Pams tits! I distrust camels or anyone who can go for a week without drinking. Music and literature, painting and photography all stimulate me. I live in the outdoors, and it becomes very apparent very quickly that the things that keep it all together are more complicated than you first realize - and that really interests me... The spiderweb of exhistence held tenuously together by thin strands all linked together, all relying on each other for strength and stability... READ THAT AGAIN and think about it people!!!If something can hold my attention for longer than 5 minutes, then Im interested. Anything less and its out the window. I would like to see a man driving a steam roller try and ramp over a pen full of penguins... Now that would interest me a great deal!I would like to see someone, juggle three chainsaws - but he has to be drunk and blind folded, and he must only have one arm... Now, wouldnt that be interesting? I would like to see world leaders settle their differences in a boxing ring... Imagine Bush and Bin Laden going 12 rounds? Wouldnt that be interesting? My interests..... Mmm?

I'd like to meet:

mmm... That guy who puts the plastic ends onto shoe laces - I have a few questions I would like to ask him. Also, the guy that designed the cap for my multi vits... When I meet him, Im going to punch him - what were you thinking you idiot??

Music:

Pretty broad list here. I love bands like Tool and A Perfect Circle, but enjoy pretty much anything really if its good music and there is some talent involved. I hate; let me re-iterate that again for you folks, who are hard of hearing and visually impaired, I HATE pop, and all of the other candy coated processed junk, and commercial crap thats floating around these days. Spears, you on that list baby, so are you Christina, and the list goes on! Marley, and Tosh rule. Pink Floyd, what genius (peformance enhancing drugs there no doubt). Rage A. M., good old fashion rock like AC DC, through to Il Nino, Slip Knot, etc. Paco de Lucio, Motor Head, Jello Biaffra, NIN, The Cure etc I can go on and on. When Im in the mood, I will listen to some classical music too.

Movies:

Ghost in the Shell, Appoclypse Now,Alien, Sleepers, The Big Lubowski, Monty Python's Meaning of Life, gee once again there are so many great movies out there, its hard to actually think of any in particular.

Television:

There is no TV reception out here where I am. I have a fire everynight instead. You have to turn the log over if you want to change channels!
.. ..

Books:

!

Burroughs "Naked Lunch" definitely is on top of the list. Herbets "Dune" novels are great. Edgar Allen Poe's works, with Stokers "Dracula". Ever wondered what its like to be scared shitless, and carry on functioning because people depend on you? "Chicken Hawk", "Black Hawk Down", and "We Were Soldiers". These three books display human courage in its raw form. Dantes Inferno, Edgar Rice's "Tarzan, Gods of Mars series"... And Lewis Carrols "Alice in Wonderland". For a laugh I like Charles Bukowski; he has a way of describing life at the bottom of the barrel. You can smell the stench of cheap whiskey, cigarettes and sex when you read his stuff... he is the ultimate anti-hero! Im getting into quite a bit of beat writing, I like the style.

Heroes:

Many of the worlds greatest heros, are either dead, unsung and unknown. Robert Nesta Marley and Peter Tosh, Lorne White, Mandela, Frank Zappa, Jim Morrison, Dimebag Darrel, Max Cavellera, Fat Albert, and last on the list is Shit the Dog. Oh, and one more, those dudes that climbed the Arusha City Hall clock tower naked and turned back the hour hand by 3 hours - you know who you are!
