Sharing skills.
Guns exist. People have them. Our sole interest is to teach others about them. We are not here to fetishize firearms or get drawn into ideological arguments regarding their place in society. Because guns exist and because people have them, we feel it is in everyone’s best interest to know basic gun safety, know how to identify them and their capabilities, and to acquire familiarity with common guns.
Firearm Skillshare FAQ's…
1. What is a Skillshare?
A skillshare is, simply, a sharing of practical skills. Instead of talking at you, we talk with you.
2. Do I need experience with firearms to attend?
No! In fact, this skillshare is geared towards those with no experience whatsoever with firearms of any sort. You do not need any knowledge regarding firearms before attending this event. However, if you have some basic or even advanced knowledge you're still invited.
3. Is this legal?
Yes. This skillshare is legal. The firearms involved are all legally purchased adult owned firearms.
4. Does this cost anything?
The Saturday skillshare is free of charge. The cost for firing a gun on Sunday will vary depending upon what sort of ammo you choose to purchase. There are two options for Sunday…you can bring your own ammo as long as it is on a list we will provide to you or you can give one of the trainers money and they will buy you what you prefer. Prices will be made available soon.
5. Do I need to attend Saturday in order to go on Sunday?
Yes. No one will be allowed to accompany us on Sunday if they were not present for the familiarization and safety course on Saturday.
6. But I can't attend Saturday and I really want to shoot a gun!
Sorry. No exceptions will be made to this.
7. But I know how to shoot a gun and I am familiar with gun safety. Can I come now?
No. End of story. If you attend Saturday, you can come on Sunday. If you do not attend Saturday, we can not let you shoot on Sunday.
8. What kinds of guns will be available to shoot?
Everyone will start off shooting a Ruger 10/22 which is a small caliber rifle with little noticeable "kick". From there, you have other options available.
9. Do I need hearing protection?
Yes! It is absolutely necessary to have hearing protection while shooting on Sunday. It is highly recommended that you bring eye protection as well.
10. I'm coming from out of town…is housing available?
Housing can be made available if you let us know ahead of time that you will be coming. Please give us the number of people you will need housing for in your contact. You must RSVP by April 20th in order to secure housing.
11. Can I bring my own gun?
Yes, but you must follow these guidelines: You must contact us prior to bringing it. We must see and inspect it beforehand. It must be a long gun (rifle, shotgun, carbine, etc.). No pistols will be allowed due to stringent NY state laws. It must be a gun that you can legally own and operate in NY state. It needs to be in a safe and fireable condition. You can only bring it on Sunday. Lastly, you must be willing to let others use it. If any of these requirements makes you uncomfortable, please leave your personal firearm at home. We don't mean to come across as experts on the matter-we just require these to both avoid possible trouble and to make sure everyone attending is safe.
12. Couldn't this be dangerous?
It definitely could be, but this particular skillshare won't be. We are taking every available precaution to make this as safe as it can possibly be. If you have specific concerns regarding this please contact us at the e-mail or numbers provided.
13. Do I need to RSVP?
We would appreciate it, but it isn't required. We want to make relatively anonymous attendance possible for those that prefer to remain that way. Although a simple e-mail to [email protected] just saying how many people are coming would be great. If you are coming in from out of town and need a place to stay, you DO need to let us know ahead of time so arrangements can be made. Please do that no later than April 20th.
14. I'm from the media, who do I contact?
You can e-mail us at [email protected] or call us at (yet to be decided upon number)
