About Me

Welcome to my world.
Or my space, I should say, given the context. This is where I'm supposed to write all about myself. But that would probably take too much time to write, and be way too boring to read. So I'll edit down just to what I think are "the good parts".
Why am I on MySpace?
You can only make so many friends at work, church, etc., the usual places that you frequent. I believe in a rich life filled with many interesting people. I figure MySpace is a great way to meet interesting, intelligent people who I might not meet otherwise. So far, so good.
Basic biostatistical factoids
I was born in Hollywood, California. I grew up in the La Crescenta/ La Cañada-Flintridge area of Southern California, and moved to Glendale when I was 14. I've recently relocated to Lomita (think Torrance area), about 5 miles from Redondo Beach. I got married when I was 23, was widowed at 28, remarried at 30, divorced at 34 and now I've been happily married for nearly five years. I have one adult son, from my first wife, who lives with us.
There's more to life besides work.
I like to walk, bike and blade at the beach, hike in Griffith Park, walk at the Rose Bowl, and drive along the coast. Every weekend I walk at Redondo Beach in the very early morning (just before sunrise, usually). I love going to Disneyland every chance I get. I enjoy going to the movies and watching plays, and taking in the occasional concert when I can. I also find it fun to explore different museums. I like playing games (I'm quite competitive at Scrabble® and backgammon), listening to music, and enjoying the company of good friends. I love to cook (Italian and Mexican, mostly) and bake. I do fine arts (including charcoal drawing, pastels, and mobiles) and photography, and I've written a modest collection of poetry and short stories.
Life is funnies
One of the first things I do every morning is read the comics pages of the Los Angeles Times and the Daily Breeze. Two of my favorite strips are Frazz and Get Fuzzy. My life wouldn't be complete without understanding what "callipygian" means, or the deep-rooted sentiments of "Chicken Chicken Die". 9 Chickweed Lane is another favorite, with the ongoing "Hallmarks of Felinity", featuring Solange the Siamese. Last but not least is Pearls Before Swine, a simply inspired anthropomorphic comic strip.
And, it must be said... what the F**K is up with the LA Times kicking out another 5 strips from the daily comics??? That's now 11 less than they had 5 years ago. F**K the Tribune. There, I've said it.
Life is food.
I love food. My favorite cuisines include Italian, Mexican, Breakfast, and Chinese. (Did I mention I like to cook?) My favorite hamburger places are In-N-Out Burger and the Carney's on Sunset Blvd. While I try not to eat very much fast food, I do enjoy going to In-N-Out, Baja Fresh for good Mexican food, and Panda Express for Chinese. My favorite sit-down restaurants include Islands, California Pizza Kitchen, and Kokomo's at the Farmer's Market at Third and Fairfax. Lately we've been groving on breakfast at Mike's Brickwalk Cafe in Rolling Hills. I also enjoy trying new restaurants, and new cuisines. Life's too short not to try everything at least once, right? (With the possible exception of calamari - I refuse to eat anything with suckers on it!) As someone wiser than I once said... Life's too short to drink the house wine. (Speaking metaphorically, of course, since I don't drink.)
Life is chocolate.
I love chocolate. My favorite was Ghirardelli® Dark with Almonds... until they discontinued it. Just about any Ghirardelli chocolate is good with me. I also like M&M's Peanut, and I love with Ritter Sport Dark Chocolate with Marizpan. YUM.
Here's your chocoholic recipe for the day: Go to Starbucks. Order a grande hot chocolate. Have them make it with eight pumps of mocha instead of the usual four. Have them add two pumps of raspberry. They'll ask you if you want whipped cream. Of course you do. Enjoy!
Life is details.
My favorite colors are yellow and green. My favorite clothes are T-shirts or sweatshirts (depending on the season), and shorts (year-round). My favorite animals include cats, rats, squirrels, and giraffes. None of this is really relevant, or even moderately interesting. But hey, you read it.
Life is the beach.
My favorite beaches include Bolsa Chica (near Huntington Beach), Dockweiller (El Segundo), but my most favorite beach (and most favorite spot on planet Earth) is Redondo Beach.
Life is juggling
Cindy and I can juggle... but not like this guy:
..

My Interests

"Too many people think I'm a concept or I complete them or I'm going to make them alive, but I'm just a f***ed up [guy] who is looking for my own peace of mind. Don't assign me yours." - Clementine, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

"Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, milk shake in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO what a ride!'"

Life is culture:
Arts and Crafts architecture; photography; writing; PhotoShop; modern art; theatre; movies; museums; music.

Life is baseball:

I'd like to meet:

People who "get" the beach at 6AM, intellectual humor, kites, and the Zen of relaxation. Please have a fact-based opinion about something. Creative types welcome.

Who I'd like not to meet:
People who are "creepy", unwashed, druggies, smokers, chronically hopeless alcoholics, or slaves to their televisions.

Who I'm desperately trying to avoid:
Ultra right-wing conservatives, religious zealots, extremists, narcissists, and fools.

There's only now
There's only here
Give in to love
Or live in fear
No other path
No other way
No day but today

There's only us
There's only this
Forget regret
Or life is yours to miss
No other road
No other way
No day but today

And they couldn't tell me what it was for

Something we could die about, you know
