About Me

Hi, my name is Katherine Shirley. I am a 26 year old singer and actress. I have had a slightly schitzophrenic career so far, as I am a crossover artist. I enjoy singing in a lot of different styles, from blues and jazz to gospel, pop, rock, musical theatre and opera. I am currently developing my operatic voice, but I am happy working in pretty much any style.People sometimes ask me what I'm really like. I never know quite how to answer them. I am something of a chameleon, able to reinvent myself a hundred times to fit what people ask of me. I speak fluent French and Italian, and it is almost a different person in my skin when I switch culture. I enjoy success and have not yet discovered anything I cannot, (with a little practice), master eventually. I have been singing since before I could walk, and it is something I will do for as long as I can. I write songs and poetry, and paint wierd and wonderful pictures. I devour books, and love to learn new things. I have picked up a few skills during my travels so far, taught myself corsetry and clothing manufacture, and have a keen interest in design. I have no idea what I will be doing in five years time, but I am sure it will be interesting. I hope that life continues to present me with new challenges, new people to meet, new skills to master, gaps to bridge, and worlds to conquer. In case you haven't guessed, I'm a Libran.

My Interests

In no particular order: Painting, Drawing, Singing, Songwriting, Making clothes, Making corsets, Costume, Dancing, Sex, Writing, Shoes, Theatre, Opera, Musicals, Cooking, Sci-fi, Film, Computers, Languages...

I'd like to meet:

Friendly and interesting people, original thinkers. Anyone wanting to offer me paid work.

Music:

Anything and everything, Metal, Reggae, Opera, Latin American, Musicals, Music Hall, Rock, Soul, Rhythm and Blues, R&B, Jazz Trumpet, Rap, Musicals, World Pop, c.20th century music in general...There are very few things I really and truly hate.

Movies:

It depends entirely on what mood I am in and what company I am keeping. With my sister I watch old Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly movies, plus some silly American Teen Comedies, with my Dad I watch Thrillers and the odd Action movie, Terminator, Full Metal Jacket, Grosse Point Blank. By myself I watch 'World Cinema' (mainly French and Italian films, but I am also a big fan of Pedro Almodovar), and gangster movies, particularly The Godfather trilogy, Goodfellas etc... Recently at the cinema I really liked Romance and Cigarettes, V for Vendetta, and I heart Huckabees...

Television:

I do not currently own a television.

Books:

Yes please, as many as possible! One day I dream of having my own library...For the train: detective stories, murder mysteries, and other whodunnits, some historical, and fiction based on forensic pathology - I really enjoy Kathy Reichs. On holiday: Anne Rice and Thomas Harris, frequently translated into other languages - I especially like the French version of 'The Silence of the Lambs' and the Italian translation of 'The Witching Hour'. With a cold: Harry Potter (in several languages, but my favourite is the Italian translation). I also have been known to read some fanfiction, although the standard varies wildly.
