- something about Norwegian / Nordic music...(in Japanese) -
Greetings from the western part of Japan!
Born in Osaka and grown up in Kyoto, started to play the (classical) piano when I was three. I quitted to play the instrument after twelve years and became a listener, in the meantime I played the French horn in a brass band and later I played the bass in a piano trio which was actually never formed...
I started a website in January 2001 and since summer 2001 it is focused on Norwegian / Nordic music. No significance of the name of the website, grinningtroll, but the colour, deep green that you see now, has a story which is too long to be put here, but in short: never forget the music I liked and the artist who created the music!
Most of you don't understand what I write on my site (that's good for me :-)) - Basically what I write are presentations, reviews and updates; no critisizing. There are still not so many resources for the Nordic music available in English or Japanese, so hopefully I could be a small help for the people interested in the music.
I write also articles for magazines and the liner notes for the Japanese editions of the CDs such as: V/A "Jazzland Remixed II", Jaga Jazzist "What We Must", Kornstad Trio "Space Available", Torun Eriksen "Glittercard", Arild Andersen "Electra", Thomas Strønen "Parish", Nils Petter Molvær "ER", Atomic "Happy New Ears!", Terje Rypdal "Vossabrygg", V/A "Kitchen Motors Family Album", Michiyo Yagi / Ingebrigt Håker Flaten / Paal Nilssen-Love "Live! at SuperDeluxe", Solveig Slettahjell "Good Rain", Håvard Wiik Trio "The Arcades Project" and Jóhann Jóhannsson "Englabörn".
Besides writing I take photos; it is just since late 2003 that I take at the concerts. For some of them please see pics section or Flickr .
