Colin Farley was born when he was very young in East Dulwich, London, England. His father was a well know jazz band arranger and when Colin was 3 years old his Dad bought him his first reel to reel tape recorder that he has been making noises in to ever since!
Colin played the piano from the age of 7 and at the age of 12 started playing bass guitar because his father suggested to him that every band in the world needs a bass! Colin there and then decided that if he was going to do this, he was going to do it right and modelled his playing on some of the greatest bass guitarists that have ever been .... Paul McCartney, Jaco Pastorius, Stanley Clarke, Chris Squire (the Yes Group), Nathan East and James Jamerson to name but a few. Aiming for such high standards quickly enriched Colin's technical ability and at the age of 16 found himself like Wayne Rooney ready for the England Squad!
Having turned down The Damned as a bunch of musical badboys (Colin used to get the bus to school everyday with Chris Miller aka "Rat Scabies"), Colin embarked upon a music journey that has taken him to every major country in the world and a few places that are not of this world!
Colin's playing style has been said to be comparible in musicality and feel to Flea of the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and his major music influences include Yes, James Brown, Weather Report, Booker T & the MG's, Beatles, Pretty Things, Steely Dan, Bjork, Prince, Tamla Mowtown, Todd Rundgren, Massive Attack and Lemon Jelly.
Colin has just returned from the USA where he produced the album "Get Tribal" by Veronika Sandor and is currently working on film music with Kate Jaconello. He will soon be available for sessions be it playing bass, keyboards, guitar or production (see discography) and can be contacted through his Sessions Manager, Louise Hatch at [email protected].
