The people I've always wanted to meet the most, besides Santa Claus, is Paul Reubens (Pee Wee Herman) and John Waters. I love meeting new interesting people.
I love this band! Big Dipper rocks
Once upon a time there was a band in Wichita, KS named The Embarrassment. They played music that was innovative and powerful and lots of fun. Just like all good things, in time the band came to an end. The band members scattered to the four corners of the earth.
The guitar player, Bill Goffrier, landed in Boston and joined former members of Mission of Burma, Volcano Suns, and Dumptruck to form the kick ass band Big Dipper. Be their friend.
Good news! In March 2008 Merge Records is releasing a Big Dipper 3 CD anthology including previously unreleased material. I can’t wait to get my hands on a copy of that!
I love movies, especially the indies.
The quirkier the better.
I'd love to hear your recommendations.
Here's my most recent favorite ~
The book was incredible and surprisingly so was the movie.
Born with an acute sense of smell, Jean-Baptiste Grenouille (Ben Whishaw) resorts to dark deeds in creating a perfume that captures the essence of a woman in this 18th-century thriller based on Patrick Süskind's best-selling novel. The disturbing intensity mounts as Baroque-born Grenouille's obsession to create the ultimate scent moves from innovation to murderous aberration. Alan Rickman co-stars along with Dustin Hoffman as a master perfumer. (Thanks Neflix.)
This is my pick for Jill's quirkiest movie of the month~
Love the Ramones? Of course you do. Check out this documentary of the real story of the Ramones. Perhaps more than you want to know.
Variously dubbed "A punk Last Waltz" and "One headbangin' helluva good time," this incisive documentary about the Ramones by Michael Gramaglia and Jim Fields traces the seminal punk band's trajectory from obscurity to fame to induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It's an insider look at the rockers -- blemishes and all -- that will probably make your head spin. Includes interviews with Joe Strummer, Debbie Harry, Nicolas Cage and others.
(Thanks Netflix.)
What is your favorite quirky movie?
Leave me a comment to nominate next month's quirky movie of the month!
I love to read and read constantly. Fiction is my favorite, but I like to read a business or marketing book every now and again. I'm currently reading:
Since I was a little girl I've always loved fairy stories. Although this book just came out a couple of years ago, this collection of short stories will take you back to the time of magic, exploration, and fairies. Delightful reading!
My heros are the people who actually make things happen. Dreamers and visionaries are good too, but there's a long road between talking about doing something and actually having the guts to go for it. I'm inspired by people who make their dreams and visions a reality...
