The Save Our State Parks campaign is a project of the California State Parks Foundation dedicated to stopping the proposed closure of 48 of California’s State Parks. Please join the Save Our State Parks Campaign and help keep our treasured state parks open for today and for future generations!
At a time when state residents need low-cost, accessible places for recreation, fitness, education, or simply an experience with nature, closing down state parks is absolutely the wrong thing to do and a huge mistake.
Visit SaveStateParks.org to share your park stories and endorse the campaign!.
Background:
On January 10, the Governor released the $141 billion state budget for Fiscal Year 2008-09, which begins on July 1, 2008. Included in the budget is the proposal to close 48 state parks and reduce the number of lifeguards on 16 state beaches
The Facts
These two actions result in a savings to the state of about $8.8 million, but require the state to forgo at least $4.8 million of revenue it would have otherwise brought in through visitation to the 48 closed parks.
These actions will shut out at least 6.5 million Californians from their state parks.
What you can do:
Visit SaveStateParks.org to endorse the campaign, share your park stories and send a letter to your legislator asking them to oppose these closures. Spread the word and help save our state parks!!
