What are some of your earliest memories of music? I just remember hot summer days in south east San Diego, sitting in my dads red pick up truck driving through the streets listening to the tape cassette. I also remember going to a Michael Jackson concert... I was so in love with Michael. I remember trying to moonwalk and jumping off the couch and screaming with my hands in the air, or Salt N Pepa's song "Push It" and doing the Rosie Perez dance. Haha. Oh! I also remember MC Hammer, and my moms buying me hammer pants and me dancing on the block with my friends. Haha. What are some of your earliest memories of hip-hop? There isn't just one memory that comes to mind, there is a lot. I do remember every other Saturday my uncle would pick me up, and we would go get his car washed, detailed, and then after we would go sneaker shopping. And get hair cuts with designs in our heads. And he always had the best music. So I remember Snoop a lot, Dre, Pac, Biggie, Warren G, ... and I also remember I knew I wasn't really allowed to listen to it. Haha, and I will never forget the time I heard Junior Mafia and heard Kim on some of the tracks and being shocked. And going to school singing "Get money... get money!"If you could work with any artist who would it be? Wow. There are tons of artist I would love to. But if I could only pick one hands down Kim. And Lauryn Hill. I don't care what people say about her, she gets it in you. What are your views on San Diego and the rap game? Honestly, San Diego is such an untapped resource. We have some really talented musicians in ALL musical genres. How do you feel about being a gay rapper? First off I am not a gay rapper... I'm a rapper that is gay. And there is a difference. I rap about my life and what I've been through, seen, done... everything I rap about is true. I think our time is overdue. But people are ignorant... and dont have a clue what hip hop really is or where it came from. It came from sharing your struggle, promoting DJ, etc.. so in essence hip hop is color blind and doesnt judge.
What are some of your favorite rap songs? Damn! There are a lot. "California Love" is a fuckin classic. "Juicy" and "Hypnotize" are as well. I really love "All That I Got Is You" by Ghostface which also explains why I love "Dear Mama" by Pac, I think anyone can hear those songs and feel a lump in your throat. But there are too many for me to list. What prompts you to write? Life. Seriously, that’s basically it. I've been writing since I was young, like 12 and 13. Growing up I had so much anger inside of me, and I didn't know where to channel it. And when I got angry it was hard for me to express what I really meant to say verbally, I would always say the wrong thing, so I would just write it down. And that turned into me keeping journals of all my writings. From poetry, to rhymes, to songs, to drawings, everything. If you could change anything about hip-hop what would it be? Nothing. It’s that thing you just have to sit back and watch. Watch it evolve. And watch it change lives.
