About Me

The Bow Djangos – www.bowdjangos.com - Hot Swing and Jazz Manouche! From the banks of the beautiful Bow River, Calgary’s original ‘Hot Club’ and current ‘gypsy jazz ambassadors’- “The Bow Djangos” are a project of talented troubadours whose musical offerings are guaranteed to make your ears tingle, your toes tap, and your skivvies get to start buck-jumping! Hear your favorite jazz standards – with a gypsy flare! And more! Haunting gypsy ballads, alluring waltzes, driving Latin rhythms, and melodic ‘django’- esque repertoire make audiences jump up and dance !Our specialty is the hot swing and gypsy jazz of Django Reinhart’s Hot Club de France, seasoned with a dash of blues and a smattering of swing standards from the 1920’s and 1930’s. Capturing the soul of hot swing and jazz manouche in Canada since 2003, this venerable band of gypsies has a lively and engaging program for you! Nobility for the ears: Our new ‘accept-no-substitutions’ configuration guarantees authentic ‘Hot Club’ sound. Two fabulous guitarists – the inimitable Vicomte E. Vincente and Tythm, the Duke of Rhythm, accompanied by the burning violin of Prince Goldenbow, and the underpinnings of Countess Bassie’s rich double bass and sultry vocals, assure true jazz manouche sound and an unforgettable gypsy jazz listening experience. Calgary's gypsy jazz ambassadors, "The Bow Djangos", have been perpetuating the driving rhythms and sizzling sound of Hot Swing and Jazz Manouche since 2003!We are available for public, private, and corporate functions and also provide workshops in this style. www.bowdjangos.com****************************************** ******"Swing Shift" email:[email protected] - is a group of like-minded music lovers, enthusiasts of the British Columbia Swing Workshop, which has come to be known as the group's swing "Mecca". Smooth Swing is the hallmark of this group, whose intrumentation includes two lead guitars, rhythm guitar, piano, clarinet, bass drums, and vocals by the infamous female quartet, The "Kitchenettes".********************************************* *********************Stray Dawgs (Quartet) has a more eclectic focus, depending on who's available. Primarily a bluegrass band, when the banjo player is awol, the group has been known to slip into swing and gypsy jazz. We can't help it!
