..
When he was 7 years old, Mr. Schieferdecker..s live long interest for
jazz has been evoked by two famous vinyl records: Duke Ellington -
Live in Paris and Albert Mangeldsdorff – Trilogie. These gems were a
gift of his music teacher and Mr. Schieferdecker started learning on
Clarinet, Saxophone and Guitar.
With 15 years he took up the electric bass and switched to double
bass after only one year. Freshmann studies at the Meistersinger
Conservatory in Nuernberg followed with18 years, while already
jamming with local heros like Frank Moebus, Rudi Mahall, Dejan Terzic
and Lutz Haeffner he continued his academical studies at the Hermann- Zilcher-Conservatory in Wuerzburg.
After receiving a personal phone call by Albert Mangelsdorff he
joined the German-French jazzensemble.
While staying with this famous formation until Mangelsdorff..s death
in 2005 he established himself as a very versatile and extraordinary
bass player.
Playing also with Albert Mangelsdorffs group „Old Friends“ an
appearance in a famous 2004 3-Sat casting of Mr. Mangelsdorff..s
quintet marked an important highlight of Mr. Schieferdecker..s career.
The mentioned recordings which were an important factor in his early
years are still an important musical influence. Mr. Schieferdecker
had them in his luggage when moving from Nuernberg to Koeln.
There he continued his studies at the “Hochschule fuer Musik Koeln“
with Dieter Manderscheid and John Goldsby, collecting more and more
valuable experiences. After passing his artist diploma with
distinction he continued with masterclass studies and finished
finally with a concert diploma in 2004.
He gained again an enormous reputation as bass player and sideman and
started to concentrate on composition. On his first solo CD he
recorded a collection of his musical works, together with four top
musicians of the american and german jazz scene:The succesful cooperation came together with the help of the well
known jazz musician Alex Sipiagin, for whom Mr. Schieferdecker worked
as a sideman. Mr. Sipiagin established the contact to Mr. Kevin Hays
who on his part recommended Mr. Bill Stewart for playing the drums.
After a magical recording session, the bandleader stated: “It..s a real pleasure to play with Bill and Kevin!“. And with Lutz Haefner
and Rudi Mahall as well...
The musicians know each other since many years. Of course, they are
different characters with their own musical imagination. But when it
comes to playing together, a deep understanding exists.
