About Me

We are an equine sanctuary for abused, neglected, unwanted and sometimes donated horses. We specialize in rescuing and rehabilitating DRAFT HORSES and we have the black French Percherons, a Scottish Clydesdale, a Belgian from Belgium and an Austrian Haflinger draft pony. We also help many other horses but prefer to help "service horses".We gentle and train the horses to partner with us in providing therapeutic riding and driving for disabled children and adults. H.E.A.T. stands for Horsesisters Equine Assisted Therapy. We can bring our therapy horses right to your location. Horsesisters has a CEA (Certified Horsemanship Association) certified Western and English instructors and two assistant instructors and two IRD's, specifically certified with CHA as an Instructor for Riders with Disabilities. HorseSisters competes in the FLORIDA EQUESTRIAN SPECIAL OLYMPICS and has two equine Special Olympic coaches.

.......Those people responsible for, as we are, in helping to end the abuse of all sentient creatures, most specifically the magnificent horse. Most people don't set out to neglect or abuse a horse. What we see usually happens in homes is a lack of: good horse knowledge, daily time and a 30 year commitment, and often money; then the horse is forgotten. But there are many other practices in the equine world that we need your help in stopping. Please join HorseSisters in helping end the docking of draft horse tails, the soring of gaited horse's feet and legs, the artificial lifting and weaving of tails and the rediculous idea a horse needs outrageous shoes and pads for strictly for show.In 1999, HorseSisters rescued two PMU foals from Manitoba, our Raydar and Raven.......My hat is off to all those that continue to educate the world about the cruel treatment of PMU horses for the completely unnecessary drug PRE-MAR-IN, a Weyth prescription manufactured of Pregnant Mare's Urine (PRE-MAR-IN or PMU) and prescribed to women for hormone replacement therapy. Once on 700 ranches in Canada and 90 ranches in America, PMU mares are bred indescriminately and then housed for 10 months in dark stalls, withheld water to concentrate their urine, and then tethered so tightly they cannot lie down and disturb their bladder catheters..... Once let free to give birth, the unwanted PMU foal's chances of surviving are less than half. Weaned way too early to ensure the mare is back on the "PEE" line, making money for the "PEE" rancher, one quarter of these PMU foals go from "the stable to table" in eight hours as foal meat is a delicacy in many countries..... Several years ago, in the middle of the EIGHT year, long-term study of PREMARIN, it was discovered over 40% of women taking the drug had heart trouble. Weyth quickly shut down the intense manufacture of the drug, leaving most ranchers with full barns of 250 pregnant mares to feed. What about the foals? The equine auctions were constantly busy, as were the slaughter houses. Horse rescues all over started helping ranchers take in these unwanted foals.P ....... Today the number of PMU ranchers is one quarter of what it was, but Weyth still makes this drug, and still there is no plan for these unwanted foals. BEWARE OF SOME SCAMS with some unscrupulous "rescues" who make deals with these ranchers and then charge the buyers HUGE, untrue shipping amounts. Some ranchers hold these foals hostage to the public, threatening to take them to auction if they are not saved at their price, which is at least what would be made on the foal at auction. When in fact, Weyth has told rescues they are not allowed to work with the ranchers any longer....... Did you know that 98% of all women that asked their doctors to switch them to the synthetic form of this drug did just fine? Or did you know that the Japanese have NO word for menopause? So I have to ask, as a woman who went thru menopause drug free, do women really NEED drugs to stifle responses to the normal and gleeful process of aging? Most physicians don't even know how Premarin is made when they get their free samples and then prescribe it, clueless to the sheer number of deaths of our beloved equines in the process.
