MySpace Layouts
This site is devoted to other artists that have recorded Beatles songs. Either doing them justice, giving them their best shot, or butchering them to death. At times they make a parody out of them, or they make fun of them completely. Have fun!

I'd like to meet:
MySpace CodesArtists who are out there playing Beatles music for their audiences. Other people who own Beatles covers and would like to share facts about them. Fans of The Beatles' music. Thanks to everyone that has added me as a friend and for keeping the wonderful music of The Beatles alive in their own way.
Music:
There's several covers on this playlist that aren't in my collection. And a few are. This is just to help you to get the gist of what my page is all about. Del Shannon was the first American artist to cover a Lennon/McCartney song when he waxed "From Me To You" in 1963. Several months before The Beatles released their own version. He picked the song up from them while on tour with them in the U.K. John Lennon asked him not to record it, but Del did anyway, and that's the beginning of Beatles covers history. The first "all tribute" album was "The Chipmunks Sing The Beatles" in 1964. If you save "Twist And Shout" that The Beatles covered from The Isley Brothers.
When The Beatles established themselves on solid ground in America in 1964, a lot of artists couldn't wait to cover their songs, recognizing immediately their power in songwriting. A lot of "sound-alike" groups on cheap budget labels popped up. (The Buggs, The Manchesters, The Liverpool Beats, The Liverpools). Record companies urged established artists to record that one "token" Beatles cut on their records to help sell them. (Peggy Lee, Teresa Brewer, Vikki Carr). Other established groups liked what they heard and put their own spin on them. (Billy Lee Riley, Chet Atkins, Santo & Johnny, Floyd Cramer). Classical orchestras recorded their songs. (Arthur Fiedler), Easy listening artists recorded their songs. (Mantovani, Andre Kostelanetz, Jackie Gleason), Adult-Comtemporary artists (Wayne Newton, Andy Williams, Perry Como, Bobby Vinton, Johnny Mathis, and even "'Ol Blue Eyes" Frank Sinatra) Country artists (Buck Owens, Tammy Wynette, Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Ray Price) Jazz artists (Wes Montgomery, George Benson, Buddy Rich, Stanley Jordan) The Beatles songs have also touched artists known for recording and performing blues,(Lowell Fulsom, Sue Foley, Jimmy Thackery), punk rock (The Jam, Mission U.K., The Punkles), heavy metal (Lemmy of Motorhead, Motley Crue, Beatallica) "Hair Metal" artists, (Dokken, Tesla), Mainstream rock artists (Pat Benatar, Journey, Kansas, Golden Earring), and world music (Herb Alpert, Sergio Mendes, Monique Kessou). How many versions of "Yesterday" or "Something" could there possibly be? Artists in modern times from all over the globe are still recording their songs, in their own style. Will this madness ever end? Let's hope not. The Beatles were the greatest rock band of all time, and it certainly shows through the artists that cover them. This is a show that The Beatles hosted in 1965 of other artists covering their songs. "The Music of Lennon and McCartney". Performances by Peter and Gordon, Lulu, Alan Haven and Tony Crombie, Fritz Spiegel's Ensemble, The Beatles, Paul McCartney and Marianne Faithfull, Antonio Vargas, Dick Rivers, Billy J. Kramer and The Dakotas, Cilla Black, The George Martin Orch., Henry Mancini, Esther Phillips, Peter Sellers, and The Beatles again! Many thanks to my good friend Robert for sending this to me!
