About Me

we cannot tell a lie... there is new music coming...at a glacial pace... for now, check out Peter and Eric’s song City Lights on the Other Songs and Dances Vol. 1 compilation released by Backlight Records. Inspired by the sounds of The Blue Nile and the textures of Daniel Lanois, Ric Hordinski, Matthew Ryan and Gerry Leonard - City Lights steps outside of the rock and roll roots of Fool the Dancer toward a more ambient landscape. This song and the entire compilation album can be downloaded at iTunes.

Peter has just finished working with Holler, Wild Rose! on Our Little Hymnal - their epic debut album for Backlight Records. The album was released on September 18, 2007 and is already gaining buzz and kudos from NPR, Performing Songwriter, FILTER Magazine, KCRW, Bagel Radio, EXCLAIM! Magazine (Canada), Puddlegum, Radio You Boston and others in regards to its massive and transcendant sound. You can preview some of the songs at Holler!’s MySpace page (see top friends below) and find out about their next live shows...
slowly, out of the din and chaos of downtown manhattan’s after-work watering holes - around a bit of wanton earnestness and a few heads full of music - fool the dancer formed from the ashes and excess of other musical projects in pursuit of the sounds of poetry, mystery and rock ’n roll. the band’s early efforts accidentally wandered into an unintended but enjoyable intersection of nostalgic rock and loud pop and were barely captured on the "five songs" ep released very quietly in 2004. almost directly afterward the band grew enamoured of the "mystery" aspect of their foundational trifecta, plunging into near-obscurity in search of "that sound..." reported to be "ringing out there - somewhere..."__ it would come as little surprise to some if those who have survived the journey and those met along the way surfaced in the near future to exhibit what they’ve found. stay tuned...

Some things people have said about "City Lights" in reviews of Other Songs and Dances:
"[Other Songs and Dances, Vol. 1] Compilation producer Peter Field jumps across the mixing desk to give us "City Lights," a glitchy electronic dance backbone that will appeal to fans of the Bergen (Norway) dance scene based around artists like Royksopp, Erland Oye, Sondre Lerche, et. al." - Foxy Digitalis
"President of Backlight, Peter Field, contributes with the lovesick "City Lights." His use of lightly programmed loops is a technique used on most tracks here and it cooly ties the project together as a complete and cohesive work." - the black and white magazine
