Emerson said 'every hero becomes a bore at last' I think a a pirate captain once saved me.I was drifting along on a home-made raft held together with nail glue and tears when a dashing pirate captain sailed by and invited me to come on board with him whilst i made arrangements for repairs. His ship was very impressive and he seemed like he knew a fair bit about the whole 'finding treasure' thing so i took his hand and left my rickety raft behind. We sailed stormy seas and sunny skies together for quite a while. It was nice. I allowed him to steal my heart and he pillaged and plundered me (as dashing pirates often do) and tied me to his side with ribbons and strings. With the help of his creative pirate skills, we drew up plans for a brand new ship for me to sail, so much better than my raft, shinier and more me than i knew i was. Then one night, without warning, the skies turned very dark. The dashing pirate captain, fearing i would never find my own treasure if i kept sailing with him, quietly slipped into the dark ocean and marooned himself on an unspecified island, possibly with much rum and ham.The next morning the ship was quiet and the sea was all too still. After a fair bit of time sulking with the little rum he left below decks, i clutched the plans for my new ship tightly and took hold of the wheel, steering towards a new harbour, with those ribbons and strings trailing softly through the water behind me.
