The Hello Morning

About Me

"You can feel the heat waves emanating from the open landscape ... I'm lost in a Quentin Tarentino adventure across the American desert and feels fine!" - Caroline Tran, Triple J
"I reckon hanging with these guys would be fun. You'd meet mid-afternoon on a Sunday, watch the football, have a couple of beers and talk about how good Buscemi is in the Sopranos." - Scott Dooley, Triple J
"Potential cult heroes in the making..." - GoEdo!!!, Triple J Unearthed SuperUser
"Woah-oh-oh... Listen to the music" - The Doobie Brothers

Meet The Hello Morning, a band that grew out of a duo featuring frontman Clifford Stevens and guitarist Matthew John Citizen. “If there was a bad gig in Melbourne, we played it,” Clifford laughs. “That’s what The Hello Morning is about – the promise of a new day, starting over, shaping your own path.”
Clifford grew up loving The Band, Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, Dylan and Nick Cave. Snatches of all these acts can be heard in The Hello Morning’s sound. “People are always afraid to pin their sound to one thing,” Clifford smiles, “but sometimes I wish we could.” He adds: “We just write what we like.” The stage is their natural habitat. “If we don’t have a gig for a week, everyone gets a little edgy.”
In early 2009 The Hello Morning began recording their debut album at a bluestone homestead on a working dairy farm in Glenlyon in country Victoria. The guys set up camp for two months, sharing the space with cows, kangaroos and owls. They were also forced to evacuate twice – fleeing from Victoria’s horrific summer bushfires. It was there that they recorded 17 tracks, including a duet with Bertie Blackman – a cover of Wilson Pickett’s early ’70s gem Don’t Let The Green Grass Fool You.
