About Me
One of the Bay area's finest, DJ J-1 was born and raised in Daly City, CA. Having three older brothers who were DJs in the past, J-1 was around music his entire life. At the early age of 8, he would experiment on his older brothers' turntables. Through the years, it grew from a hobby to a passion. Carrying on the tradition of the Center of Attraction DJ's that was started by his kin, J-1 DJ'ed weddings, cotillions, company parties, etc.
By the time he was 17, J-1 finally emerged into the club scene and took it by storm. With people unaware of his age, promoters, club owners, and club-goers alike booked him at their parties, whether it was 18+ or 21+. With numerous venues in the San Francisco club scene under his belt, such as the legendary Sound Factory, Suite 181, etc., J-1 eventually started throwing his own parties with Center of Attraction and other promoters.
A few years passed and J-1 decided to break into radio.....internet radio! While hosting his own radio show called Liquor Barrel Radio alongside DJ Erock and his fellow partners in crime, DJ Izzace and DJ Yas, J-1 was able to reach out to listeners worldwide. Featuring records strictly from the Bay Area/West Coast, J-1 was able to bring the Hyphy Movement out to the masses. He was able to help break Bay Area records outside of the Bay. He was able to bring in exclusive interviews with Bay Area artists such as the Hoodstars, San Quinn, Big Rich and Balance to national artists such as Warren G just to name a few.
J-1 finally emerged into commercial radio with the Bay Area's Party Station, WiLD 94.9 in December 2005 as a guest DJ during the Xmas mix. DJ Erock introduced him to WiLD's APD Travis Loughran and J-1 started to grind his way to become a regular on the Saturday Night Street Party. He has been with the station ever since refining his skills and bringing them to new heights.
DJ J-1 can be found DJ'ing at various clubs throughout the week and has become a regular in the Bay Area club scene. Known as a consistent party-rocker on the radio or in the clubs, his style is one-of-a-kind, spinning music from various genres. From hip hop and R&B, to reggae and rock, the energy on the dance floor never stops.
