No, of course they're not - Boltdown are an hard-nosed thrash metal band that are quite capable of causing bloody ears, wide-spread uncontrollable hysteria and mass evacuation of yer neighbourhood!! When four similarly minded, experienced and well gigged thrash-heads from Newcastle Upon Tyne decided, in 2006, to get themselves together as a local 'super group', Boltdown was the result and from that, 'Omnicide' is the devils-spawn they've contrived to create!Oh yes, Boltdown come at yer all tooled up and ready to rock.
Boltdown's aural onslaught takes the form of massive, repetitive riffs, incessant spiky drums driven by break-neck paced kick drums, rigidly nailed bass and howling vocals - quite light stuff then??!! I don't think so, Boltdown don't take too many prisoners as they blast through the ten tracks here.
They take the term 'melodic rock' into new territory by tearing up the written conventions and going flat-out into electric hell.
Saying that, these guys are more than capable of coming up with a surprise or two; the instrumental track, 'Solitude', takes things right down and almost pretty with a really impressive slow and grinding work that is totally juxtaposed to most of the rest of the album.
But generally, Boltdown don't allow the eardrums much respite other than that so just turf out the furniture, turn the mean f****r right up and let the walls vibrate and the windows rattle - that's exactly what this album needs; max decibels and plenty of wide-open space to avoid the possibility of serious damage to body parts when flailing about.
Ardent metal freaks will love 'Omnicide' by Boltdown; it offers everything you'd expect from a band of thrash 'war lords'; not for everyone as you'd expect but certainly these guys can hold their own when it comes to bone-crunchin' rock'n'roll.
