Singing in church is how April got her start as a performer. It was in Southern California that the congregation of her pentacostal church heard her versions of hymns and contemporary gospel music week after week. She was influenced early on by the likes of Gospel greats such as Andrae Crouch, R&B singers like Aretha Franklin, and pop singers like Christina Aguilera and Mariah Carey. The rhythmic strength of the soulfull songs gave April the hunger for heartfelt music of all styles. She performed in choirs and as a soloist throughout school. It was through her performance at church one day that she got the notice of record producer David Longoria who brought her into the studio to perform background vocals on other artists' recordings. She started vocal coaching and teaching professional vocal techniques to artists. It didn't take long before she was, herself called to perform as an artist. Her debut single, OLD SCHOOL was recorded in Los Angeles but she traveled to Europe for the first performance as an artist. It was the French city of Cannes during the 2005 Cannes Music Festival (MIDEM) that April and her dancers sang and danced their way into the hearts of the Europeans who experienced the energetic shows. Now back in the USA, April and her show are performing to diverse audiences across America.
