MANICHAE: Kicking Ass since 2002!!

About Me

Bio
Manichae are a 4-piece, Nottingham based hard rock/metal band with a reputation for personal, energy-filled, crowd-crushing live shows and an arsenal of original tunes to back them up.
Having first gigged in 2002, the Manichae monster is now a tightly honed machine, with all 4 members bringing their own personality to bear upon both the music and the live performance.
In our music player you can hear clips from our current release, The Brotherhood EP, as well as being able to download the full length version of the track 'Surrounded', which will soon be available as a video.
Manichae are currently in writing mode, preparing material for their first full-length album. No schedule exists. Manichae will also be playing a smattering of selected dates this year, so stay tuned as this will probably be the only chance to hear any of our new material this year!
What They’ve Said…
“Fans of Nirvanas Love Buzz should appreciate this opening track from Brotherhood, the latest EP from ever active, newly reformed and already acclaimed Nottingham rockers Manichae. Aside from its credible sound, pace, execution and production values, ‘Surrounded’ simply kicks ass, rawks and most importantly, resists the urge to be self indulgent on what could‘ve been a most outrageous guitar solo, making this a strong and well balanced starter, along with a vocal that stirs fond memories of one Mike Patton...oh yeah!!!When Manichae apply their own sound, which is certainly in the making throughout here, and apply it to their own inarguably great songs (forgiving the contrived/cheesy mutterings at the close of each track), what’s gonna stop ‘em? Not the stay puft marshmallow man I’ll wager!”
Glasswerk
“With the fuzzed up sleaze of Hoodini-era Melvins, the crunching bite of Unsane all Delivered with the striking vocals of Josh Homme, Manichae have made one hell of an EP!”
Subba-Cultcha
“Make your point once and make it strong! And they have. Brotherhood is a melodious, beguiling, auditory sensation that should be in everyone's music box.”
Nemesis Productions
“I’ve seen this band live a couple of times on the local circuit and they delivered a truly excellent performance at the recent “Necessary Evil Insomnia XXX Ball’ festival in Mansfield so I was really looking forward to hearing the bands studio work - and I was far from disappointed. The four tracks on offer showcase just how good Manichae are as they deliver a very memorable piece of underground Metal. Show this band your support and get yourself a copy of this CD, they deserve it and believe me you wont be disappointed.”
Insomnia Magazine
“‘Brotherhood’ is laced with groove-laden tracks, rhythmic drumming and classic bass lines. Frontman Paul Hughes’ voice is tender, yet powerful. Husky, yet clear. You can hear the emotion behind their music with every word from his mouth. Opening track ‘Surrounded’ is definitely the track that will get kids moving at a gig, or dancing at a club. ‘Sister’ on the other hand is a much slower, more emotional track, it’s the sort of song that back in the day would have had fans reaching for their lighters, and swaying in unison as the tiny flames flickered.”
SceneSlut
“Manichae's Brotherhood is somewhat of a mixed bag of classic rock, metal and grunge. There's a shade of Alice In Chains-meets-Soundgarden to the likes of 'Sister', with a far heavier Killgore-meets-Sevendust crunch on the title track”.
