Born on Wednesday September 6th, 1989 in Dorchester, Boston, Massachusetts, to Cape Verdean immigrant parents, Danny Goncalves was brought into this world with no idea what would lie ahead of him. Born into a family with 13 other siblings (although he only lived with 6 of them), Danny always had older siblings to look up to for guidance and inspiration. The youngest of the family, he would be taken care of the most out of the children, little did they know he also had the most talent of them all. An incredibly gifted child, he learned to read fluenty at age four, being able to recite paragraphs from encyclopedias with ease. He would sing and dance around the house all day long while watching his two favorite cartoon shows The Transformers, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. At age 5 he facsinated the adults around him by telling people he wanted to be a software engineer when he wanted to grow up although no other children at his age knew what software even was. Growing up he was always musically inclined, from singing at baby showers, to even singing for a crowd in his sister's junior high auditorium. "I remember him being about 4, 5 years old and i would take him to school and he got up on the stage in the auditorium, and sang Micheal Jackson's 'Billie Jean' in front of anyone and everyone" says his sister Juceila. From singing he moved on to rapping after listening to Nas' song "Nas Is Like" off of his I Am...The Autobiography CD. "I remember bein' like 7, 8 years old man listenin' to my sister rockin' the I Am joint' and me in the other room playin' Playstation, thinkin 'WHAT IS THAT?!' So when she wasn't in the room I went in there and took that CD, listened to it and stumbled upon this track called 'Nas Is Like'. Yo no joke I heard that joint and it changed my life forever I swear to you" It was that track that gave him the impression of Hip-Hop and whether or not he could do it. It wasn't until the summer of 1999 when he spent the summer over his cousin Jason's house that he decided to become a rapper. "Summer of 99' I went to my cousin Jason's crib and when I got there he was listenin to a song with no words. I asked him "Where are the words?' he said 'This is called an Instrumental....it has no words im' writin' my own rap to it!' Then I thought 'Shoot, he's younger then me, if he can do it I can too!' Then from there on out it was writing every day for me." And soon his gift began to flourish as he would write everyday to instrumentals he would download of the internet. "I remember being him 15 years old and I brought one of my friends over to a party we was havin' and I said 'Yo my lil' brother can rhyme man...I think he can beat you in a battle!' My friend said 'How old is he?!' I said '15.' He said 'WHAT THERE'S NO WAY I'M LOSIN' A BATTLE TO SOME PUNK ASS KID!' and when they finally battled Danny just went off on him i mean, TERROIZED him and when it was done my friend looked at me with his jaw on the ground and said 4 words to me....'INVEST IN THIS KID!'" said his brother Ema. As he began to grow, he expirenced tragedy after tragedy. "First my sister's, fiance got killed in a motorcycle accident, then my father got killed, then my mother got diagnosed with breast cancer. Although they removed the tumor out of her successfully she still has to undergo chemo and stuff like that so its a sad sight to see my mom with no hair cause she's fighting the fight of her lif- no scratch that FOR her life. Then my boys started gettin killed like crazy, and if they weren't gettin killed they were gettin locked up or shot at, it was insane what was goin on" So as that was goin on he used music to creat his escape. " I don't want to come in and say 'OH I'M THE BEST, IM'A SAVE HIP HOP' and all that sh*t cause the dumb*ss people who say that are ignorant because you don't say your gonna save Hip-Hop you just do it, you don't say your the best people appoint you as the best...i'm not tryin to do anything but make my mark on this game and leave it in a better shape then when i found it, and if all that other stuff happens thats all hunky-dory but if it doesn't....hey as long as i'm satisfied with what I accomplished and I can look back and say 'Hey I did pretty well for myself.'...well thats enough for me to be happy. It is impossible to think of a genuine revolutionary lacking this quality. - Ernesto Che GuevaraThe amount of poverty and suffering required for the emergence of a Rockefeller, and the amount of depravity that the accumulation of a fortune of such magnitude entails, are left out of the picture, and it is not always possible to make the people in general see this. - Ernesto Che GuevaraHe who joyfully marches to music in rank and file has already earned my contempt. He has been given a large brain by mistake, since for him the spinal cord would fully suffice. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable loce-of-country stance, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action! It is my conviction that killing under the cloak of war is nothing but an act of murder. - Albert EinsteinEmancipate yourself from mental slavery, none but ourselves can free our mind. - Bob MarleyGive a man a fish and you feed him for a day.
