NATIVE AMERICAN SINGER OJIBWE ARTIST JIINIIKWE

About Me

..

I am a Anishinabe that lives in South Dakota. I guess this makes me a Prarie Ojibwe. I have been singing all my life, but not untill recently have I started to record some of my music. I grew up playing classical piano but love Native music. I am also an artist, writer, and actress. I like to integrate some Lakota and the Anishnabe language throughout my music. This will encourage the younger generation that language is important and they need to learn their Native languages to preserve their cultures. I also grew up near Motown and had influences of Bob Seger, Ted Nugent, and even Madonna. All were from Michigan, it was customary that children grew up around music and there were alot of people who had baby grands and other musical instruments around that I knew of. I once went to Erie to hear some people who just got togeather for an evening of jamming....echoing a geniously Jethro Tull rhythm at least. The 70's music was an era where music was the kind of music that you could feel to your bones. I always wished I could of learned the violin and electric flute. I integrate sounds, synthesizers and other small instruments into my flavor of music. I hope you will enjoy my music, it is a mixture of some old sounds and new.Jiiniikwe

Influences: My influences came from Detroit Michigan at an early age. I think the first person I really loved and was mesmerized about was little Stevie Wonder because he achieved his musical abilities while blind., to me I add this up to one of few in a life time (according to me)...exceptional humans born with exceptional gifts! I use to play the piano and other music at the time...great performers such as Elton John were my mentors...even if they didn't know it!and was a modern dancer. Those influences also came from choreographers and teachers who were innovators through dance, movement, and music.I also played with the idea when I was working on my PhD to incorporate Howard Gardners theory "multiple intelligences" to get through a difficult program. In this case I developed a learning time management approach to learning. This...using myself as a research subject, assisted me in retaining other analytical skills in critical thinking, thereby resting my logical part of my learning with creativeness. I am adamant in my views....creativeness is essential to all learning and experiencing our world around us to influence our goals.
Sounds Like: My Sounds are like Native American sounds. I also integrate Lakota traditional wicaglaka techniques/ Anishinabe values in my music. I also like to mix old time themes with modern beats. Hope You Like It!
