FarWest Almanac is a free, bi-monthly roots music/arts magazine with an initial run of 10,000 copies. The concept is simple: today we live in a world where people from all countries are connected culturally in a more profound way then ever before. This changing world has given rise to music, arts and culture that could not have existed in previous eras. Looking behind this change, we can reconstruct the pathways that have lead us to this moment. Culture is the laboratory of art, and the raw materials used in our experiments are the roots that have been laid in the past. FarWest Almanac attempts, much like an investigator, to trace the evolution of popular culture through its diverse roots. Bringing together artists, musicians, critics and patrons our magazine offers a diverse collection of opinions about film, music, visual art, food, gardening, and anything that warrants investigation and analysis. Our first issue will be widely distributed through out Los Angeles, the San Fernando Valley, Anaheim, Long Beach and in limited numbers nationally. Traditional almanacs provided their readers with useful data including meteorological and agricultural facts. Our almanac is the cultural equivalent, and contains reviews of various mainstream and underground media, calendars of events, social/political critiques, helpful tips and everything else needed to effectively arm the modern person with the tools they will need to trace the evolution of an ever-changing beast, our world. To understand the current situation, look no further than the events that have brought us to this point in time. Look no further than the roots.
