We are Art Goes Pop....
WE ARE THE NEW POP
YOU ARE THE NEW POP
....welcome aboard
Some say that maybe it’s all about the fame game, but should you find yourself bedazzled by new for NEWS sake then perhaps this mindset has slowly dripped in amongst the splashes created by glob after frothy glob of society fall-out...that radioactive frizzle-fry pushed upon us all. I’m not talking in brightly coloured OVERTS here, no we can all see quite clearly the pool in which the MOSS gathers and the fame hungry swim (besides, i suspect that particular pool will be dried out by the SUN pretty soon...que the backlash game)...No i’m talking about a particularly tricksome item here...Some might think it RETROSPECTIVE SICKNESS, BAND-WAGONING or even my particular yelp SCENE-HOPPING...But what i’m upsetting about here is not quite that easy to get by with...SOOOOO without further ado ART GOES POP will give you a little think-over treatment in the form of a reflect....We’re all guilty of this thing...ALL OF US, but it’s the increments in which we’re found guilty that tell the story..and it’s a story oft told. Forget the old myriad reasons to be bored of a scene, to yawn off a bunch of previous favoured films, to wear that nose-upturned when flicking through books...i’m not at all interested in that...that’s a bone long been picked over before. This particular (and obviously hard to quantify) thing i’m urging towards...whether you know the jargon or not (actually forget it...before you have a bout of JARGON FATIGUE), well it’s not too important, but what is important is that you already KNOW that you already KNOW what i’m hinting at....Ever found yourself not trying the NEW because of some invisible barrier? Ever already decided what you DON’T like before even sampling that particular onion? How about NOT checking out the latest thing because ’You’ve heard it all before’...Diluted i guess it’s like that recommended book that umpteen friends said was a must read...you know eventually you’ll give it a go once the invisible barrier gives...and when you do perhaps you too will be cultish enough to push it...but it’s that fear...fear of the horde perhaps, KNOW- CONFORMITY taken to it’s extreme, how to be hip surrounded by non-hipness eh? I’m not saying that we should immerse ourselves Da Vinci like into some dreary daytime television haze...We ALL can sniff out a stinker for sure...but what about the bubbling under brilliance that’s pushed upon you by your immediates? We’re no slouches here at Art Goes Pop when it comes to seeking the new but sometimes after something has been cut and dried up we’ll occasionally poke over it to see what we missed....And boy are we glad when we do? The cynical SCENE it all before clique can smirk all they want, but not there’s no shame in not being wired into knowing about a trillion bands at once, and nor should anyone EVER take the superior route, bully-browing simply because a kid, perhaps, hasn’t heard of the SILVER APPLES or seen STROSZEK... My testiment to this is that I remember always seeing Gang Of Four albums and singles whenever i went record shopping yet never checking them out...then years later when EVERYONE claimed to have been massive fans FOREVER i finally was immersed, thanks to a compilation of their stuff given to me by a friend and the hunt was on.......and maybe a lot of fibs are told when people claim to have heard this and watched that BUT as long as YOU dear reader don’t get caught up in the OLD RAZZLE DAZZLE you’ll be ok. There’s no shame in admitting you weren’t in the audience at the first ever Big Benny And The Bangers Gig..there’s no shame in admitting you have not one jot of an idea what the word MODERNISM means....but it IS A SHAME if you let this alter your state, shake your bake or crush your NEW....Don’t let CELEBRITY shuffle you off what’s real and what’s not...it’s truly more important to sample EVERYTHING since your taste is your own, than be stuck fly-like upon the sticky game of cynicism and critique...Don’t let the drips splish splash all that remains of your taste away, there is a middle ground that you must traverse, but if you find yourself frothing over with criticalness for things you’ve not even gawped at yet then it’s time to reach for the D.I.Y. cure...and literally DO IT YOURSELF, yep you might sample some yuk along the way but perhaps you’ll get along with the ’Terribly obvious 3rd album’ or the ’Overated 60’s filmaker’...Or maybe you won’t but at least you’ll have decided yourself eh?....
