And The Hits Keep On Coming...
Review by Dorian Miller
E-Biz a.k.a. Otis Clapp "Losing Control"
In today's musical landscape of over-produced, under-talented “stars” it is always refreshing to have an artist such as E-Biz a.k.a. Otis Clapp show you how music was done before these starlet disasters became all the record companies would promote. His latest offering is titled “Losing Control,” and it is an homage to the feelings any one of us could have on any given day. The other highlights of the album come in the multiple tracks that could all easily be a single released to the radio stations tomorrow: Tick-Tock, If you talk too much, Find 'em Fool 'em, Clapp On, and How we roll. The tracks all have various themes and tones, but have a strictly hip-hop feel and sound. The songs at any point could easily be seen as a Billboard Hot 100 track (and maybe someday will!). Without breaking each song down, they are simply high quality hip-hop tracks that you can play at any time for anybody and they'll be able to sit back and enjoy. And if you want my advice you should play it for anybody and everybody, get the word out there about the secret treasures you're missing here in the Queens music scene.
The tracks I felt did not fit well with this CD were 'Looking at Me' and 'On Your Mind.' These tracks felt incongruent for different reasons. 'Looking at Me' has a club-like sound to it and wouldn't be far off to hear at a rave or in some dark crowded nightspot with people dancing from wall to wall. However, knowing the artist and seeing him live, I do not feel how the song fits in the overall image and sound of the artist. 'On Your Mind' strikes me as a combination of two tracks that E-Biz previously released 'Say You Love Me' and 'So Tired.' Both tracks are definite highlights in the Otis Clapp catalog. However 'On Your Mind' doesn't seem to keep to the flow of this particular album.
“Losing Control” is another collection of quality, well-written, well-produced hip-hop tracks that should be in any body's CD collection (or on their ipods!). To get your copy today head over to www.myspace.com/otisclapp and buy a copy today, I guarantee you won't be disappointed.
Overall Rating: 9 1/2 Stars out of 10.
