What can i say?
Im bored of bios written in the third person when theyve quite clearly been written by the person they are about. Keeping that in mind, let me sum up a few basic facts about 'Dragonfly' which is really a pretend name i made up so i didnt have to say "Whaddup YO - Im MC Gary".
1. i was born in Manchester Uk and raised in Brisbane Australia, which is not quite the Hip-Hop mecca you might think. despite that i got into rap in 1991 and started writing songs and freestyling and tagging up walls and bashing people for their shoes.
2. i eventually grew out of that stuff after experimenting with a lot of drugs, attending (and dropping out of) mutiple universities and travelling around the world a couple of times including living in Ireland and England, and visiting NZ, Japan, Egypt and Thailand. i was also a social worker for a bit.
3. to date ive released two cds off my own back which i will attempt to sell you within about 5 minutes of meeting you. im presently working on a solo project (THE ART OF SHAMELESS SELF PROMOTION) and another with my crew (THE TALL MAN SOUND SYSTEM). ive supported artists like Sage Francis, Buck65, Lord Finesse, Murs and Looptroop.
4. ive been in shitloads of battles, from Aust to Uk to NZ, i have won a bunch and lost a shitload as well. if you want to watch some just check out jumpoff.tv or type my name in youtube. theres footage of me battling stig on the left over there in manchester which is probably one of my best battles to date..
5. im not that interested in doing collabs with rappers i dont know or of rapping on outdated "kinda like new york in 95" type beats. that shit is boring.
i am interested to work with independent filmmakers (ive been in 2 indy films so far) and to spit on dubby/grimey/electronic/experimental hiphop kinda stuff. if you wanna book me or the Tall Man Sound System for your gig, festival, wedding or bar mitzvah; just hit me up here....
