Ms.Shai was born, to parents Sheila & William Cameron, in the mountains of Oregon in the Late 80's. Raised in the DFW, and the infamous Houston, Texas. Growing up, music was always a huge influence in her family. Both parents had great voices, and often sung when Shai was a smaller child. Her household would be filled with all types of music, from Marvin Gaye, Heavy D, The Four Tops, and The Supremes. It wouldn't be long for her mother to notice she had quite a voice at the age of 5, and begun taking her to voice lessons at 6. Since then, Ms.Shai has been hooked to music. She begun choir in intermediate years, and throughout her older years. Her first song was at the age of eleven, and that was the age when she also started to write poetry. She has been writing poetry & music for 10 years, and singing on & off for 15 years. She didn't truly take music seriously until she turned 17 years old. She describes singing as a deep, immeasurable passion that allows herself to express her feelings in way she couldn't do before, and tell her heartfelt stories that will uplift people, and somehow give them insight what they're going through, and how strong they have to be to overcome it. What are her future goals, as far as the music world? Well, here is a direct quote of Ms.Shai herself.
"My future goals is to become a different type of artist, someone respected for my honesty, and for my life struggles. I want to upset the game, and give everyone of all ages something they've been missing. A good song, with a relatable story. I'm making my history mark by simply being me, encouraging those with powerful lyrics, and a good persona. What to know about me? That I am just a person with a big heart, and a soft soul. I can befriend all, because I'm just a laid-back type of person."
Ms.Shai describes her voice as smooth, one of a kind, and soulful. The artists that influence her are India.Arie, Ledisi, Chrisette Michele, Jill Scott, and many others. Like Ms.Shai's song, she is here to stay. There is no one who can say she won't make it, because she already believes and knows she will. Her mission? To be a voice for women, and men also, to give them a good song, with a nice beat, with lyrics that will make you think, or even some that you can relate to.
Ms.Shai, also dubbed as The Lost Songbird, is an artist you might want to know, and a person you'll learn to love."I'm something like a quiet soul you never knew could sing, but once I open my mouth, people get pretty stunned that I have a voice." --Ms.ShaiSo, what's next for the talented Lost Songbird?
